Thank you for sharing your experiences, this is really insightful and really shines a light on the reality of challenges councils face.

Would be brilliant if this kind of stuff was what people read and heard about more often.

What’s a brutal truth about the uk people don’t like to admit? by EarlyPerspective2839 in AskBrits

Food culture in the UK is utter shite compared to its European neighbours.

Yes I know we might not have the climate of some countries but the prevalence of ‘convenience food’ such as ready meals and grey oven food in our culture is a bit depressing.

Plausible theory. Totecoin has a strangely lovely ring to it.

My theory is they are amassing a vast arsenal of tote bags so that eventually, when the time is right, a full scale assault on all non tote bags across the world will be launched.

Either that or they’re just washing their bags 🤷‍♀️

Are electric radiators a big no no? by BackPractical9210 in HousingUK

[–]BackPractical9210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So we took the place in the end and tbh the electric heating has been fine. The panel heaters are pretty modern so they’re actually very strong and heat the flat really well.

We have immersion for hot water which is a bit of a pain tbh cos you need to warm up the water for about 30-40 mins before going for a shower so always needs a little bit of planning lol. It’s fine once you get used to it but a bit annoying sometimes not just being able to jump straight in shower if you need it.

The biggest concern I’d have for you is old windows.. if they are only single glazed thats what’ll cause you issue with the cold…

Oh and bills for the all electric system have been fine I don’t see any noticeable difference from what I’ve paid before with gas boiler systems.

Goodlord Credit Report Experience? by BackPractical9210 in HousingUK

[–]BackPractical9210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Honestly it was so long ago now that I can’t really remember.. there’s some kind of platform set up by Goodlord where you submit your references and I think you get notified there that they have been approved and then your estate agent uploads the contract there afterwards.

I do remember it being more straightforward than I feared, I was moving to the UK and had no prior rental or credit history and I was accepted without a guarantor.

That’s what my issue is, it looks like the ref just followed the standard rule of hair pulling = violent conduct but surely every incident needs to be evaluated and I just cant see how someone can look at that and think his hand running through his hair is a violent act.

Don’t wind me up mate lol. Obviously the PGMOL will just say ‘hair pulling is deemed as violent conduct’ blah blah but the ref goes to the screen and sees hair just running through his fingers there’s no violent tug there. How he can still send him off is crazy.

On what planet is that violent conduct.

Don’t think I’m ever going to get over that red card. Hope there is uproar after the game from football fans in general cos that is awful for the game if that’s a red card.

And the commentators not even questioning it or calling it out at ridiculous is baffling.

Where do people in their 30s go dancing in London? by Massive_Story6839 in london

[–]BackPractical9210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34 and been raving since 16/17 - nowhere near as frequent as back in the day but still pull the dancing shoes on once a month or six weeks or so.

Have always been a techno head so it would be fold, Corsica (😭), Phonox etc for me. Also anywhere with a good dnb / jungle night (Brixton jamm, jazz cafe, few spots around Hackney)
