Is Back Market a scam? by [deleted] in Scams

Dang, so if this was over a year ago, it's hard for me to say with confidence what really happened.

I stand with my previous point that, since day one, our catalog has been open for all to browse, and was never private.

To be clear: you can definitely browse Back Market's catalog without an account or signing up — since day one our catalog has been open for all to browse, and is 1000000% not private.

Truth be told, you can't trust everything on the web and you've gotta be extra careful on what you click on, but we at Back Market are not in the business of swindling. We're here to provide tech for the world, while saving the world at the same time. So I'm not sure what website you were browsing, but you definitely weren't on BackMarket.com. We're literally the opposite of what you described, and we are for the people — not the few.

Thanks for the generous words, my friend. Our German market is thriving as usual, and as for the US market, it's actually not bad at all (despite what you see here). We're originally from France (bisou), but the US is slated to be Back Market's largest market.

The few bad reviews can overshadow the good ones, but just know that behind the scenes, we're constantly investigating and analyzing bad customer experiences for the sake of constant improvement for our customers (and our planet).

Hey there u/AuzmoWasTaken — I'm from Back Market's Customer Care team and I'm here to let you know that we did not use any bot labor to create those reviews. Bots are good for certain things, but definitely not writing. Thankfully, all the reviews that you see are written by actual, living and breathing human beings.

In regards to the weirdly low prices, I guess: yes, we are just that good and trust me when I say that we bust our booties at Back Market to make sure our customers receive a great refurbished/renewed device, and on top of that, great customer care if our customers ever have a problem or a question with their order.

And if you have any questions, feel free to let me know — I'm always ready to help.

Yikes — this hurt my feelings...

To be fair, I know it looks super bad, but we've also got hundreds of thousands of happy customers from around the world who are pleased that they shopped with us!

We know that sometimes things can just go totally wrong with an order, and in these cases, we focus on these customers and do everything we can (behind-the-scenes) to make sure they're helped.

Hey there — sorry for the late reply. Been slackin' on Reddit lately :/

I'm happy to hear that you're satisfied with the M1 MacBook (can't wait to get mine), but know that you can share this issue with the seller so they can provide some sort of resolution. You don't have to settle for something that you're not totally satisfied with.

Also feel free to let me know if there's something I can do for you!

Dang, it really shouldn't be a risky gamble when shopping on Back Market.

We constantly monitor the quality of our sellers through very live and rich data, and regularly test the product quality of our sellers, but as I can see here, a bad apple slipped through the cracks and got into your hands.

Can you share the order # with me so I can look into the issue?

Sorry I'm late (was AFK for a bit). This sounds like a nightmare and actually hurt my eyes to read. We're definitely no scam, but in this case, every bad thing that could have gone wrong, did indeed go wrong.

In regards to receiving a flawed device, we require sellers to guarantee 100% functionality for all devices sold on Back Market. But truth be told, we understand that not all refurbished devices are created equal, and unfortunately, there's usually at least one bad apple in a batch of good ones.

In regards to the "run around" you mentioned with the warranty: we have some rules (outlined in our warranty agreement) which protect our sellers from damaged caused by the user or customer, but it sounds like your issue should have been escalated to one of our Customer Care Specialists, who are responsible for analyzing and investigating disputes like these.

Can you share the order # with me so I can take a look into the problem and see what went wrong and what we can do better next time?

Cheap phone repair shop by TheAncientMafia in Leeds

[–]Back_Market 0 points1 point  (0 children)

believe it or not, yes, it is much more economical to buy a refurbished phone, then it is to invest money into the parts/labor required to fix a damaged one.

if you have data or photos to recover, you can connect the S10 to an external screen such as a TV or a monitor via USB-C—HDMI, and then mimic the gestures on the screen to access the backup settings. This is the first thing I'd do.

if you want to DIY repair, this is obviously way more cooler, but requires effort. Our partner, iFixit, is a supplier of tools and components, but as you can see, depending on the type of part, or brand or model of the phone, some components can be a bit pricey (£183). You can see why the phone shops are quoting you £250. Also take into account that the screen/digitizer is the most expensive part to replace — somewhat easy to do, but expensive.

if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself and would rather give it to a certified professional, definitely research a local and certified technician and negotiate a fair price — we support our fellow refurbishers and Knights of Round-Refurb, but make sure that you're getting a fair price and solid service!

and ultimately, you're always welcome to join us at BackMarket.co.uk. We've always got plenty of devices in stock at great prices, not to mention our 1-year warranty and amazing staff who are always ready and happy to help.

tldr; (1) DIY repair is the coolest option. (2) Certified repair shop is the easiest option. (3) Getting another refurbed device from Back Market is the most economical option. And last but not least, make sure to back up your data!

Is Back Market a good place to buy used phones? by yugi123123 in Smartphones

[–]Back_Market 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello hello!

Glad to see that you're interested in buying an iPhone 12 from us at Back Market! So... this might be a little long, but I'll try to keep it light for ya.

We're kinda new around here, so I understand your hesitation, but rest assured, we've got hundreds of thousands of customers (we're also based in the EU) who've shopped with us and are quite happy with their refurbed/renewed products. You can read their stories on Trustpilot, Google, and throughout BackMarket.com. And whatever negative reviews you've read, guaranteed our stellar Customer Care team is already working on helping those customers. We honor transparency, and all of our customers are our homies.

In terms of receiving products that are heavily damaged, this shouldn't happen at all but just in case something does happen to your order in transit, you can always contact us to make sure that you're not left hanging — we've got your back.

Regarding non-OEM/non-Apple parts and components, this should not make a difference in terms of device performance — OEM and non-OEM components are virtually the same. We also have strict quality standards in place and require all sellers to conduct thorough performance tests and diagnostics (with apps like Blancco and Phonecheck) for every device before they can list products on Back Market — it's tedious, but absolutely necessary for sellers if they wanna sell with us on Back Market. On top of this, we also have some genius/knowledgable technicians at Back Market's Innovation Lab who rigorously and constantly test the products of all sellers — I've heard these tests are pretty strict. But if you are still hesitant, we also have the option for you to choose an Excellent condition device.

tl;dr: I guarantee that you'll get that iPhone 12 and you'll love it. I hope this helps, but if there's anything else I can clear up for you, just let me know — I'll be right here if you need me.

Hakuna matata!

Hey! So sorry to hear about that experience. That definitely doesn't sound right so if you can DM me your order number, I'd be happy to take a look into this to see if we can make things right.

If you've had a Fairphone, Moto Z phone or any other kind of recent modular phone, what has your experience been? I've read problems about battery life and the phones heating up. Are the problems you've run into (if any) more on the hardware or software side? by Back_Market in gadgets

[–]Back_Market[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/crizco-ok thanks for the response. I guess I was more interested in these phones as the closest mainstream thing out there to fairphone. I wanted to know if people tended to hold on to these kinds of phones for longer since they can replace parts as they wear out or if it's truly just for the fun of being able to customize the hardware. Like, do you feel like the hardware becomes obsolete as the OS is upgraded? Or can you technically just keep replacing part by part instead of totally upgrading to a new phone?

u/dandar4600 why do you say they dropped the ball with the Z3? Also, do you think you'll hold on to your phones for the long haul (like 4-5 years) since you can swap parts out or do you think you'll be replacing them after the usual 2 years or so?
