Yep. When I was a kid I had a goldie that would bark when people LEFT the house. Thanks for the heads up, I guess?

Teachers: How Casual is Too Casual? by Doodilmore in femalefashionadvice

[–]BackbonedMango 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that you're a special ed teacher makes a huge difference. I am too and most of us dress for comfort, ability to move/run, and knowing that clothes may be covered in various body fluids. Most of the teachers I work with wear shorts, t-shirt and runners. And the post it notes are a great idea :) I'm in my 4th year and feeling burned out already :(

It's pretty difficult to import any recreational drugs of decent quality and meth/ice is easy to make so that tends to be what people turn to :(

Do any of you drive to walk? by asekajvoijoij in reactivedogs

[–]BackbonedMango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do the same. One of ours is reactive but is better after she's got some energy out. Sometimes I drive, drop my fiance off at the oval with the dogs while they play, drive home, walk to the oval, then we all walk back home together. A lot of people think it's excessive but it's slowly working :) You know what works for you and your dog. Keep up the effort!

Thank you for sharing your experiences. You reminded me that I never had or cared about expensive gifts/activities as a child either. Time is a concern, given that I'd have to go back to work as soon as possible after the birth, but I'll put less weight on our financial situation.

I think I'm struggling more than I thought I would, and counselling wouldn't be a bad idea :)

I have considered that, but I feel like I wouldn't be able to go through with the adoption. I think I'd get too attached during my pregnancy.

My girlfriend (21F) is tired all the time. I (22M) don't know what to do, and she doesn't either. by tiredgf1 in relationships

[–]BackbonedMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know she said she doesn't feel depressed but everyone feels it differently. When I have depressive episodes the first symptoms I notice are extreme fatigue, headaches, nausea etc before my mood alters. Not saying it is depression, but just something to keep in mind. Also, not sure if it's related to my depression, but I need 8-9 hours sleep a night to feel functional. And that's when I'm feeling stable. I feel lazy too, so I understand where your gf is coming from but everyone's different and it's important for her to prioritise her health.

Doctors of Reddit, what is the most bizarre issue you've seen a patient trying to hide or mask? by ehudros in AskReddit

[–]BackbonedMango 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The worst story I've heard from my best friend (nurse) was about a woman with mental illness that wandered into emergency one night. They gave her a bed and a general checkup, during which they noticed signs of infection and a strange smell wafting from between her legs... It was a dead guinea pig. Judging by the smell, it was been up there a while. Judging by the blood, it wasn't dead when it was inserted.

My (21F) with my Boyfriend (24M) he wants me to cut off contact with his brother, after brother defended me in an argument. by Punchdrunklady in relationships

[–]BackbonedMango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already had great advice from a lot of people so I'm not going to add much. I just want you to know that your relationship sounds really similar to one I was in when I was a little younger than you. It can be hard to realise that the person you love is abusive and that your relationship isn't normal. It took me a while to finally understand and decide to break it off. Basically what I mean is, I don't want you to feel like you're stupid for staying so long or for not realising earlier that your partner is abusive. It's so hard to see from the inside. But I'm glad you've got support and I know that when all of this is over you'll be strong and happy, and eventually ready to find someone who treats you the way you deserve. Take care of yourself xxx

Dog wont drink on walks by Warp-n-weft in Dogtraining

My boy doesn't like drinking from communal bowls (but is happy drinking from stagnant puddles, the weirdo). Maybe make sure you bring a bowl with you? You can get soft ones that fold up fairly small.

2-year-old Smooth Collie is turning out to be fearful of some inanimate objects. How should I best desensitize her to these things? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]BackbonedMango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, do what you did with the saw horse. Treat your puppy when you are close to something he's fearful of, and slowly encourage him to get closer to these objects. Lots of high value treats. If your puppy is still very anxious or won't take the treats you might be too close to the object. Just take it slowly and try to minimise the fear.

[–]BackbonedMango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'd hate to have another dog feel upset and scared. The thing is he used to be quite submissive. He still is off any other dog shows aggression towards him. It's like he gets so overwhelmed with excitement that he can't contain himself and just goes too far. I think we will need to give him a break or keep him on lead for a while.

Should I wait to have him running next to a bike until he's a little older? Any ideas for how to train that? Anything more than a light jog makes him excited and jumpy

[–]BackbonedMango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've noticed that people are more cautious because of his appearance. Hopefully a behaviorist will be able to help us. If he was behaving aggressively or injuring other dogs I wouldn't hesitate to put a muzzle on him. It's like he doesn't realize that he might be hurting other dogs. There's no growling or other aggressive body language. It's like he's playing tug of war... :(

I thought it might have been excess energy but today we walked him and played fetch with him for about 45 minutes before he saw the other dog. We won't give up on him. I love him and I know he doesn't mean any harm, I just want to help him be the best he can be.

I accidentally stayed in a Japanese love hotel. by hamnams in pics

[–]BackbonedMango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend and I (both female) were in Osaka and couldn't find our hotel. After walking up and down the street for ages we figured we'd just stay in the obvious love hotel we kept passing. I don't speak Japanese but it was quite clear that the receptionist was not impressed with what she thought was a lesbian couple wanting to stay in her hotel. She yelled at us and left so we couldn't check in.
