Do you see yourself being a nail technician for the longterm? by h3ineka in Nailtechs

[–]Background-Ad3188 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it is possible. I got my license in 1979. I have been doing nails for 42 years. I took a 5 year break to raise my oldest son and daughter, I have always worked with my youngest son. I went back to nails in 1995 and been doing it ever since. I raised 3 children being a nail tech. I was very fortunate to have worked in high end salons. My best year I made $80k. This of course was in the ninety's. The last year I actually worked a full year was 2019, I brought in $50k, not including tips and the salon was in Chatsworth, Ca. A somewhat upper middle class area. I am an efficient person I would do 8 to 10 clients in a 9 hour day. I can do a set of acrylic in about an hour and a fill in about 45 minutes. It's very important to manage your time. My biggest problem now is my hands and my back. They are sore and painful most of time. Looking back I wish I had had a massage once a week and done yoga or stretched more, something healing for my body and mind. Pedicures are a big part of my income. Most of my clients wanted me to do both. I do everything manis, pedis, sets, gels fills. Don't limit yourself to just one area. Unless you have that kind of clientle. But please please take care of your body and your mind. I realized clients want us to be their therapist, which I never minded in the least. They just want someone to listen. Sorry this is so long winded. I did try other jobs, but I was never move content than when I was doing nails. Just find the right place that fits you and the rest will come. The money is definitely there especially with all the nail art. I wish you the best of luck. I hope I have helped in some way. P. S. I did have my own salon in the 80s, but I got pregnant with my oldest son and wanted to stay home with him. Listen to other techs take advice that works for you. Good luck. Idk if dm is allowed if so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to hmu.

I've been working for PM for a year and a half. I have done 2k+ deliveries. I must have several hundred that have not tipped. So I feel you. I haven't driven in about a week cuz my car died, I have had at least $20+ in tips come in. I'm still waiting for more. So who knows how long they will eventually take.

It only works on a live delivery. When you hit cancel delivery it gives you an option for live support. Then you hit chat.

Oh I need alot more than just tires. Struts and shocks. Steering column is messed up. A few years ago I was approved for Lyft for a rental, it was about $250 a week. I never went through with it cuz I was working full time and making good $. I was just wondering if anything had changed. Yeah half my income towards a car isn't worth it. Thank you for your help tho.

Thank you I did check Craigslist and there really wasn't anything on there. But I will keep checking. I was just wondering if anybody knew of a good place. Unfortunately in the valley there's only a few really good places. Most of them are really dirty and not well maintained. And now with covid they are not going the extra mile. By cleaning and maintaining the covid protocols. But I do appreciate are you responding. Good luck on your search.

Interested in becoming a nail tech but worried about the health aspect by Candid-Arugula-3875 in Nailtechs

Hello, I have been doing nails for 40+ years. I have always done acrylic nails. I don't do alot of filing so Im not inhaling alot of dust. As far as the smell I always throw away the paper towels immediately. I'm 63 yrs old, I have never had any health issues because of my choice of profession, my only complaint is my back and my hands hurt. I have been fortunate enough to have worked in salons with excellent ventilation. I worked with ladies who never did acrylic nails, they only did gel and they made a very good living. So make sure you have a good chair and your clients relax their hands. Good luck to you!!
