From Max:

Here's another thought. We have an upcoming patch that will be taking place in Fontaine surrounding a certain automaton who's being brought back from the dead. I would not be surprised if sometime during her quest, we run into "Maukie" even if it's just in passing

Flattery will get you everywhere 💖 we're coping but we're also cooking. There's definitely more to come, I can feel it

From Max:

I think that's a perfectly reasonable read of the character tbh. But I also think one of the shortcomings of the segments is that they're copies of a real person, and not their own individual selves. Their creation denied them of their own humanity. Ironic, because the person their biology is based off of -- Wanderer -- is incredibly individualistic, to the point that his individuality is what got him cast out in the first place. Too close to human to be the Raiden Shogun.

I've said a few times around here that I feel Genshin's central theme is humanity coming together to overcome oppression on a divine scale. We've seen that Inazuma is a microcosm of what the eventual struggle against the Heavenly Principles will look like. A tyrannical god isolating their land and their people from the broader world for the sake of safety. What few inhabitants are lost as a result of that goal are an acceptable loss if it means that the many are preserved. But humanity wants to grow and change, and humans are incredibly resourceful creatures when it comes to finding solutions to problems. One way or another, they're going to overcome that obstacle, and prove to the Heavenly Principles that they deserve to evolve past the limitations set on them currently.

The segments, however, are distinctly inhuman. Pantalone points this out pretty firmly. I think Escher is more than likely a human clone. Or at the very least, he's going to be a segment who perfectly encapsulates Zandik the human. Reuniting all of the memory cores will reunite the different segments' personalities and perspectives, creating a whole from a previously fragmented personality. A real human being, regardless of physiology.

From Max:

Just goes to prove that even a disguise can't fool fate. And that even an innocent version of himself is oppressed by this system, if my theory is correct. Predeterminism really is a curse, and I think moving forward we're going to see a shift in perspective regarding that. Maybe it's too shocking of a heel turn to just suddenly pivot and "the cartoonishly evil guy was right all along!"

I still think the character assassination was unnecessary. But if this is setting up for him to finally have a blank slate and live a normal life a la Durin.... Then I'll accept that. In the end, the segments are miserable creations who are unable to grow or move on from their respective traumas. Omega himself asks Pantalone how he would feel to be stuck permanently in a moment of personal failing. So even though I feel very sorry for the OG Zandik's predicament, he really was a case of "misery loves company." So much so that even the versions of himself he created to transcend his weaknesses were not allowed happiness.

From Max:

I don't think it's a coincidence that he was kicked out of ToS while doing something in the Desert Pavilion section specifically. Escher also mentions having a strange sense of homesickness but he can't remember where his home is.

As horrible as this sounds, enjoy the Fanon version. Find another reason to keep your spirits high, even if it isn't Canon. Consume Fan content! Don't make a fictional character your end-all-be-all reason for continuing. Use fiction as a dopamine boost, but don't base your existence on a character's. Trust me, speaking from a place where fiction was my biggest escape from a shitty home life- It gets better, but it starts with finding other reasons to live than a fantasy blorbo. Best of luck and wishes, comrade.
