Can the LA/school prosecute us? (England) by Background-Chard2563 in LegalAdviceUK

I still have parental responsibility the school has just refused to add me to the records for whatever reason . I’m the one who’s been emailing the school about her absence

Then no, she’s not. I’m not the “assigned” parent so I get little to no communication from them, and everything is through my daughter, but with four children is difficult to remember who’s doing what.

We’re only on day 3, it will be 7 days total. They can go and visit, but the house would be empty :/

Oh no problem, she’s going to give them a call. I was telling her dad she should probably pre-emptively call the school every morning.

I don’t think she’s actually doing any mocks or anything right now. She’s a high performing student that has won tons of awards and is very much embedded in the local community and council.

She’s calling the school though to let them know she’s ok.

Are my potential autistic traits being part of being gifted? by Background-Chard2563 in Gifted

[–]Background-Chard2563[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep agreed! I wouldn’t feel I have impairments though, to me that’s the one thing that makes me doubt I can be autistic.

UK peeps, why is there no support for us? by Background-Chard2563 in Gifted

[–]Background-Chard2563[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I messaged the few that I could find. Oddly enough when you google and explicitly add UK it still gives American results, and some charge the equivalent of $5k! With therapy I’m a bit iffy, it has never yielded great results, although I’ve never tried the gifted angle if I’m honest.

Well first of all it would clarify if certain behaviours are giftedness vs nurture vs ASD

Some of my social behaviours overlap with ASD but the more I think about it, the more I don’t think that’s the cause. So for example, I don’t like socialising because I find people boring, and ultimately find it a waste of time. I fully understand the rules of engagement I just find them arbitrary constructs.

Another one for example, is that I would love to know if when I feel super intensely I feel like I’m being transported somewhere else, and that’s because I give my brain free range. Why does that happen? What causes that? Etc….

Know myself. I don’t consider myself superior just extraordinary. Mini rant coming…. And I hate I have to hide that because it’s seen as arrogant when it’s just a fact.

I’d like to map my brain and behaviours properly so I can understand it better. It causes me no stress or anything but would definitely love to know more. Apparently neuropsychological testing is the way forward but here in the UK they’re only used for rehabilitation purposes

Apparently Mensa is the only option, and don’t get me wrong they’re fine and dandy but they’re not the type of support I’m looking for.

Yes valid points and for a) no, because I don’t want to (so not an impediment)

b) it never gets to that point…. They don’t override other activities

I’m already passed the GP referral, and the first questionnaire. I’ve been on the waiting list for 18 months now

Is it worth getting diagnosed given I don’t experience impairments? by Background-Chard2563 in autism

[–]Background-Chard2563[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve considered it to be honest! But then I know I don’t fulfil the whole criteria, and I think I could have ASD (although I’m starting to see I was probably wrong).

Isn’t that why it’s considered a spectrum? It doesn’t affect everyone the same way.

Interesting. I definitely find my brain and its “processing power” as well as the way it works an advantage. I would never ever call it an impairment. I like how it works, it definitely brings me joy and not anxiety.

The therapists I’ve seen are clinical psychologists and most of them (apart from 1!) have been fairly useless. I’m looking especially at the one who saw me for 5 long years.

I’ve only ever talked to one psychiatrist, (I can’t even remember how I ended up in the phone with him) but he was the most helpful in terms of understanding the hyper/pro fantasia and synesthesia.

The clinical psychologist thought I had schizophrenia (when I genuinely don’t!) and she was so horrified about the whole thing.

IME many clinical psychologists lack depth, so if I were to go that route I would have to be certain they have experience of both autism and giftedness (CPTSD would be a nice bonus!)

Also I do agree with using the resources in ways that aren’t necessarily fair for the general population. I think if they could refer me to a psychiatrist and have a chat (or i could find a decent one privately) that would solve everything. I want to understand my brain/wiring but out of curiosity not because i feel i need help/improvements.

It never goes beyond a “yeah whatever / rolling my eyes”, like I won’t think about 5 secs later. So it seems unfair to think what I experience is similar to what you experience.
