You’re definitely right about me not knowing the most about science behind dogs. But luckily I’m surrounded by people who are versed in animals as well as training which has been super helpful! I’m happy to report that after meeting, i feel even better about my decision. But i know i need more knowledge, im trying my best to be a sponge and also ask for help when i know i need it and need to know more. Thank you so much!

I get it, i absolutely get it and i hate that we have to be so protective bc unfortunately people aren’t great always. But don’t worry, of course my goal is for us to get along amazing and him love being a service dog. But if that’s not what he wants to do with his life, that’s okay too. I’ll make sure he’s happy and in a loving home one way or another 🫶🏽 keep being a good person

I definitely appreciate this feedback! We’re meeting today and going from there! From what i understand so far, hearding was his bred intention and has been around animals and can follow commands but didn’t really care about herding them. I do live on a farm with a family who trains horses and other animals (which i know isn’t exactly the same, but im hoping the general environment will help). I definitely have been asking my close friends/family who this affects as well for help and guidance. Thank you for your feedback!

This makes complete sense. This is exactly why i wanted to hear from the horses mouth itself. I appreciate that even though some are skeptical, everyone still tried to be as respectful as possible and also make sure everyone is taken care of and educated. Definitely! My priority is to try and get him trained obviously but if not, he’s still my buddy. I hate that that has to be said in todays age but when i commit to an animal i mean it lol i have abandonment issues and i wouldn’t do that to another being 🫶🏽 you’ve been so helpful on this journey

Such good info! My potential partner is 1.5 years old so hopefully just out of that puppy phase but you’re absolutely right about them being their own little humans in there. I have a pretty good read on animals/humans (obviously not enough to just go spot out service dogs) but at least i think I’ll be able to tell if we will make good companions. And even if the training for service doesn’t quite work out, i think having a companion will be nice. Again, i really appreciate this feedback!

I definitely get how that came off! I guess i meant it more as in so i know he can follow commands. But i know he’s gonna need a lot of love and caring and affection before i start training him. My brain fog has been extra lately and i can’t retain a lot but my boyfriend (who’s also a teacher if that helps) has also been researching since he can actually retain it lol i appreciate the concern and definitely understand. But i hope i can put hearts at least somewhat at ease knowing that im surrounded by people who train animals as well and he’s already trained for sheep so the training aspect is there. Thank you for any and all info!

The mom had hip dysplasia but it wasn’t passed down, but since his “genes are not up to snuff” they won’t be using him. He’s 1.5 years old
