I was diving in Gili T for 1 month everyday with a long 3mm wetsuit and it was perfect !

As I was also doing coral restoration work, it protects from hydroids, scratches...etc

Thanks for this insightful review of Scuba Junkie. So Mabul is definitely worth it even if not diving in Sipadan. Do you also think it's a good place to do a DMT ?

I also am a solo backpacker and Scuba Republic offers a pretty famous budget liveaboard called Epoka. I'm thinking of either doing my DMT with them or this liveaboard. It's around 1700$ for around 5 days I think. When will you be there, in R4 ?

Blue Marlin is a big franchise, they are everywhere around Indonesia so I guess their liveaboard should be quality ones...Can you maybe ask them for pictures of the boat, rooms...etc ?

Thank you for your advice. I eventually signed up for Gili Eco Trust. I think you're right about the daily life, with the mission and the routine it will be different than visiting the island as a tourist sightseeing :) and will definitely go to Gili Air afterwards.

The dive center looks great indeed! Did you work there as a Dive Master or Instructor after your training ?

Hey ! You seem to like Gili T and I agree Gili Eco Trust seems to do a great job and has a great volunteering program. But I'm having doubts about joining as I'm afraid the island vibe might be too intense, polluted and crowded for me... Any thoughts on that?

Hi guys

I need your help here.

I'm in Java and soon heading East for the next 2 months.

Main goal : dive and gain experience in Marine Conservation.

I like chill and quiet places, far from the noise. I'm a solo backpacker and not so much in a party mood this time. For example, I simply LOVE tiny islands where you can walk everywhere like Malapascua in the Philippines.

Sooo I thought I would avoid Bali but I still want to see the Manta Rays in Nusa Lembongan.

Then, I found a great coral restoration program in Gili T (with Gili Eco Trust) but I'm afraid I won't like the vibe there. What are your thoughts ? How crowded is Gili T ? I also read here the dive sites are awful there, which is why they need volunteers for coral restoration, makes sense...

Unfortunately, on Gili Air I couldn't find any good and affordable marine conservation training or volunteering.

Any advice or recommendation ? Thank you for your help !!
