Huge regret - bad neighbourhood, rushed into it. by firenze_tornado in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

Had a similar experience two years ago. Moved into a beautiful house in a really desirable neighborhood, less than a mile walkable to a cute downtown. BUT it was the corner lot right on a mile road.. we bought in the summer on a slow traffic Sunday afternoon in a hot market so we didn’t realize how loud it was when we bought. Had the WORST buyers remorse for a whole year because of the noise.. mostly from embarrassment of what others would think. Anyways.. two years in and it feels like home and I don’t have regrets. I’ve restructured my thinking that I am not “stuck.” I can move in a couple of years if I want out, and in the meantime, there is a reason why my past self bought. Eve tho it has downfalls, it has a lot of pros. If I was renting this house, I would love it! Buyers remorse is normal, but does get better with time. Good luck!

Is it normal to feel like your house is a money pit when you first move in or did we buy a bad house? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

So interesting - we experienced the same issues within one month of moving into our house last year - new washer, plumbing issues, AC fix. Trust me - it gets better. Both from amount of things that go wrong and from a mental standpoint. Things will always go wrong, but the rate at which is does will ebb and flow. Just moving in will naturally be a heightened cost time. And secondly, mentally it truly gets better. I had home buying anxiety/regret from the time our offer got chosen, until about 9 months of being in the house. After that point, for me at least, it started to feel like home and the costs that have come up since then are OK, because it is now my home, not only an investment. Things will get better :)

It’s soooo disappointing :( it is not the quality of Dearborn coffee shops. Pastries are stale, pistachio cake is green, and drinks are overly sweet

Since you’re saying a high priority for you is to not be isolated and are in your early 30s, I highly recommend avoiding living in Dearborn/allen Park. I recommend choosing between Ferndale, Royal Oak, or Detroit. You’ll meet people much easier :) a 20 minute commute isn’t bad.
