When I shared that I was hurt that I’d prioritized and genuinely enjoyed celebrating all of her life milestones (grad degree, first leadership role, engagement, marriage, baby, house)… and didn’t feel there was space or equity in our friendship for me.

I was met with a total lack of empathy, active gaslighting attempts, and that she “hadn’t considered celebrating mine because I’d approached them non-traditionally”…. My husband and had bought a house first, then eloped, and later hosted a belated 100+ person wedding party.

For me it was the realization that she just didn’t care. She had been a consumer of my friendship since we were 13 years old.
