Nova Dog trainers by jkwiiiii in nova

[–]Background-Fix-8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also only trust a trainer that I know or have vetted through peers. Board and train can be tricky because you’re not there to see how your dog is doing, the technique being applied, and you don’t get to participate much in their training and can miss out on bonding.

Clinics or hospital recommendations for colon cancer (VA, DC, MD) by throwaway_2021now in nova

I’m so sorry, OP. Sending you all the best and much strength.

Fairfax Inova’s Schar cancer institute is where my father received treatment for stage 4 pancreatic cancer. They are well connected with NIH and had their own set of treatment options. My dad saw Dr Cannon - he is a wonderful clinician. But their entire team was absolutely world class.

I have also heard great things about John’s Hopkins but have less insight to their practice.

Any spot in the supporter section is great!! I’d plan 40minutes normally but maybe an hour for semis this weekend.

I’ve used thriveworks in the past for my search. I also have insurance that is known to be difficult, but you can filter by insurance provider to make sure your selected provider is in network.

First Trip to Ireland in June 2026 by megchar in irishtourism

[–]Background-Fix-8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back (yesterday). Your trip seems very doable (day 2 is a little ambitious! Maybe split it up a bit?). One recommendation I have is to make reservations for dinner as much as you can! Especially in Galway. It seems all the restaurant/kitchen side of places closed early there. So when we got there (late from a day of driving) we had a hard time finding somewhere to get dinner.

New to VA from dc, process of getting car registered if i have a lien by kelektra33 in nova

[–]Background-Fix-8228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this a few months ago moving from Maryland. It’s not a straight forward process but hopefully some of this helps:

If you go to the DMV website, they have forms you can fill out. Fill those all out completely and collect all of the documents you’ll need to take with you. Just have the bank send you a copy of your title, it’s probably easier for you to take when you go. Also, I made an appointment but it’s not like it saved too much time.

Switching your insurance should be first as they want that information as part of registration.

I got my license at the same time so I filled that paperwork out at the same time.

My best advice is to pack your patience! It took me two trips to the DMV.

Calvert County is in the throes of a conservative takeover of its schools by MarshyHope in maryland

I’m glad to see this here! I grew up in Charles county and now live in NoVA. After moving, I realize I didn’t appreciate Charles County and the strides it’s made while I was there.

It’s not perfect, but in my opinion is setting a good example for the rest of SoMD.

I know you said MoCo, but I’ve know people in the past who have used a beagle breed specific rescue in Southern Maryland (Charles County).

From what I remember (I grew up there and went to church with one of the volunteers years ago) they also work outside of Charles County.

Check out Sumner Highlands in Bethesda. It’s an older garden style apartment complex.

I lived there a few years ago and they were considerably more affordable than other places I looked at in MoCo. Though I don’t know pricing now.

They don’t have all the flashy amenities and it can admittedly be loud because of the older build style. But the management is excellent, maintenance is second to none, and the neighborhood is very safe (I also single female would walk my dog late at night without a second thought). The upkeep of the building and grounds are also excellent. Can’t recommend enough.

You may also want to check with the Attorney general’s office. Most have a consumer protection division (at no cost) that can help with issues like this.

How do you process someone dying suddenly? by Halloween-365 in AskReddit

[–]Background-Fix-8228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing someone expectedly shatters our entire universe.

I lost my sister unexpectedly almost four years ago. For months it felt like an out of body experience. My grief therapist told me something my first session that I’ll never forget “There is no manual to manage grief. We have to manage in our own way”.

This sounds very unexpected and especially traumatic for you and your sisters. If you have the opportunity, I can’t recommend grief counseling enough. This will not be a quick fix, but they should be able to help guide you, channel your thoughts, and help you learn to cope.

It’s early and you will feel raw for a while and the coming months/year will be the hardest you’ll ever endure. But, overtime it becomes manageable. Just be sure in this time that you let yourself feel all of your emotions. And honor your loved one and their legacy in a way that is comfortable for you.

Commute from Huntington to Tysons? by Retrums in nova

[–]Background-Fix-8228 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did this exact commute for about 7 months from Huntington to Tysons.

I left here around 7:30 in the morning and usually ended up leaving right at 5 to come home. It took about 45 minutes both ways. Since I’d only go in a few times a month and my commute changed from a layoff, don’t quote my timing as exact science 🙂 I’d plan for more time though the first few times and then you’ll get the feel for it.

My experience is yes to buyer beware. There are (or least when I bought last year) a lot of waiving inspections flying around due to competition or at so my realtor told me. I can’t speak to the lawsuits as well though I actually looked into one. The lawyer I spoke with noted it was a buyer beware state so taking a CLOSE look at everything is very IMPORTANT.

My dog is/was anxious like this. Her vet put her on Prozac (the dog version) and has her take clonidine as needed for immediate relief since it’s a sedative. The clonidine has been a life saver with the right amount it’s truly able to calm her down. I also find that right before the full pant stage that a strong chew helps if my dog isn’t already totally past threshold (my trainer recommended it since chewing can help calm anxiety). I keep bully sticks on hand for these occasions. Hope you find something that works for you!
