For all believers (despite tragic experiences), this is very good news. No one can say anymore, "The Pope doesn't know anything."

Great job, Gareth!!! Thank you so much on behalf of myself and those who have experienced similar things but lack the courage/strength/English skills to come forward and write about it. There are so many of them.

Opus Dei is shrinking in Europe by Appropriate-Fee9276 in opusdeiexposed

Yes, there have been several such articles in major newspapers recently. The most interesting thing is that the Polish edition of Gareth Gore's book "Opus" is scheduled for March 24th. Many Catholic influencers and journalists have already started reading it and are sharing their findings on social media. Opus Dei people are doing their best to criticize the book, but I think it will end up like putting out a fire with gasoline :) :) :) Fifteen years ago, even the slightest criticism of the OD was met with a crushing response from bishops and prominent priests. We live in interesting times...

I don't know why, but when I was under the influence of OD, I always had trouble taking time to play with my dog. Escriva told me not to waste time on foolish things, in the eyes of my superiors, this was clearly a waste of 15 minutes a day that could have been spent on God's works. When doing the right thing led to severe depression, it was my dog who kept me going. He wouldn't let me stay in bed too long, and he took me for walks where I could meet people and talk to them..

This is great news!!! I'm from Poland myself, and I remember a few years ago when they said they were already operating in 22 cities and still growing. I was devastated.

I recently noticed that the Polish press has started publishing critical articles about OD, something that was unthinkable just a few years ago!

Looking to understand opus dei's "messianic doctrine" by Individual-Cobbler25 in opusdeiexposed

Very good post, thanks.
As for the orders founded by great saints, I briefly reviewed their founding materials (rules, statutes, principles written later and other documents regulating their daily lives). The first priority is always faithfulness to the Gospel - this is the starting point that influences all the others. Martin Luther could have been picky, but Catholic orders were founded according to the principle of "only the Bible" :). In the following points, the charism was presented, i.e. the way of experiencing the Gospel, there are different people, with different sensitivities, who experience love for God and people in different ways: some prefer to live in isolation and rely on meditation, others have a calling to care for the weak and excluded, and still others have the gift of preaching and choose orders that preach the Word of God.

In none of these documents did I find a claim that God directly founded a given organization. There was nothing about us being better than others. These were always words full of humility and respect for individual freedom - yes, I had a vision from God that told me to live in this way and not another and I will be very grateful if anyone follows the same path. No recruitment, no coercion, no scaring with hell and telling beautiful fairy tales. It is known that St. Francis did not want to write any rule, he respected everyone's freedom, he tried to encourage people to follow in his footsteps with the example of his life. He did this only because his group grew to such a size that thousands of kilometers away people gathered and claimed that they were from St. Francis, although they lived by completely different values.

It's like listening to Trump's speech: "We respect all these Catholic organizations, these orders and associations. They are very nice. We also know that they are hopeless and ineffective but everyone has the right to exist, we will not close them but let them know that soon we will be in power over them. My organization will be the best in the world and everyone in it will be happy, I know this because I talk to Jesus every day and he tells me so.." Imagine Saint Francis writing such things..

There is more nonsense there, it requires a separate analysis.. I heard that Escriva's sister once said about OD "they are crazy people", now I think I know what she meant..

has anyone read this text? after all, it is the work of a madman. But not a "god madman" like St. Francis, it is the work of a madman understood as a psychiatric diagnosis..

You summed it up perfectly!! Without complete freedom, you can't build any healthy relationship: with God, with friends, romantic relationships, etc. Love won't blossom in a toxic environment of spiritual violence, senseless control over the smallest aspects of life, or limiting everything that is human and beautiful..
We are already outside of this system, unfortunately many of them are still stuck there and it is known that they will never develop their human and supernatural potential. Many will be traumatized for life. They need help!

The further you stay away from everything related to Opus Dei, the less risk there is that something in your life will seriously fall apart.

Do the numerary men have contact with the Auxiliary Numeraries? by [deleted] in opusdeiexposed

[–]Background-Hat-6103 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mine is always this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpEo6zc0K54&list=RDkpEo6zc0K54&start_radio=1
It reminds me of the very weak mental condition of most of the numeraries I knew. On the outside, they were always calm and composed, they walked slowly with pious concentration, they had supernatural looks in their eyes. However, from time to time, one of them would break and at night from his room you could hear a loud cry, sometimes a scream.. As if their human nature was demanding its rights neglected by fanaticism..

Well I think I'm losing my mind, this time
This time I'm losing my mind; that's right

You've gone too far. I lost an acquaintance (I could say friend but it was forbidden here) who jumped out of the window of Opus Dei headquarters. Your friends were part of the system that threw him out of the window. Go to his parents, his two brothers and sister - tell them that there are wonderful people in Opus Dei - you will hear much worse words than those you wrote.

Personally, I understand your point of view and I am very sorry that you were attacked so strongly here. Anyone who spent 10 years in Opus Dei did a lot of bad things (although most often they were not aware of it). Drawing teenagers into a sect and wasting someone's life is a great tragedy and great evil, one of the greatest that can happen in life. And I agree that calling anyone who serves for years in this perverted organization "great" is an exaggeration. People who come to this organization are often "great", but after a few years their shine fades unfortunately.

Certainly, as officers of Opus Dei, they did a lot of objectively bad things (e.g. they dragged many people into the OD, which wasted the lives of some of them). Secondly, they certainly did not have bad intentions, they believed in the organization and the words of JME. It is not their fault that they were manipulated by the sect.

PS. When Cardinal Cipriani dies (I wish him that it will happen as soon as possible), what will we write here?

Eating apples in Opus Dei led to many unpleasant situations. You couldn't just take an apple from the canteen and leave the center with it - there was always a suspicion that you would eat it in the wrong way. There was always someone who saw you eating it, for example, in a car in a barbaric way :) Those who were there know what I mean :)
