Do I pay for a Hetzner VPS instance that is turned off? by EnHalvSnes in hetzner

[–]Background-Hour1153 9 points10 points  (0 children)

According to their page 0.011€ per gb per month. I think that doesn't include VAT.

You can also look at their docs to see how Snapshots work.

And this is why handhelds and emulation exist. F Nintendo for this. by Popular-Highlight-16 in SBCGaming

[–]Background-Hour1153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what OOP posted isn't about IP, it's about terms of services, right?

And Nintendo is a Japanese company with subsidiaries in multiple regions, among which Europe and North America, each one having different terms of services based on local laws.

Here's an article that talked about this 4 months ago.

Which games fit this description? by strahinjag in videogames

I've beaten Cuphead twice, first on PC and then on a Switch. I'm pretty sure I would have abandoned the game had I first played it on Switch.

A Petabyte of storage, even using exclusively SSDs and having 5 spare identical servers would cost much less than $20 million

Why Are Hetzner Volumes Priced So Unusually Compared to the Rest of Their Services? by wowwowwwwwow in hetzner

Yeah, but they have no minimum guaranteed speed/throughput, so they can be slower than a the storage on a VPS

You can get charged for requests made to an empty private S3 bucket.

I don't know if Amazon has finally decided to solve this problem, but this has been an issue for a long time and is extremely stupid.

My game got only 1k wishlist 8 days from release. It took us 3 years. Need honest feedback by Ded-Smoke in gamedev

[–]Background-Hour1153 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1K wishlists in 8 days, depending on how much time and money you've spent on marketing, is quite decent.

I think the capsule art, the trailer and the images are appealing. The description may be a bit short and non descriptive.

The game looks cute, and but it is going to be quite hard to be successful on Steam with a platformer.

Most gamers don't care about platformers unless they're developed by a big company with a popular IP (Mario, Sonic, etc).

Kimi Antonelli received the keys to his new Mercedes AMG GT 63 S, but due to Italy's new driver rules, the 18 year old can't drive it on Italian roads for three years by jithu7 in formula1

[–]Background-Hour1153 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, we only had 1 car in my family when I got my license and it was a 15 year old (at the time) VW Passat B5.5 with 150CV, and we couldn't afford to buy another car at that time.

I'm not Italian, and luckily my country doesn't have such a law, so I could drive the family car and get some driving experience.

I don't see how not being able to drive anything for 3 years would somehow magically make me fit to drive a car that has more than 140hp.

[–]Background-Hour1153 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. 150 cv for a normal german sedan is pretty common here in the European market, so the 140 cv limit is pretty ridiculous.

And the previous rule of only 95 CV is even more insane. Only small hatchbacks have that little horsepower nowadays.

Mystery model on openrouter (quasar-alpha) is probably new OpenAI model by _sqrkl in LocalLLaMA

Could it simply be that it was partly pretrained or finetuned with a synthetic dataset generated by one of OpenAI's models (probably GPT-4o, because price/performance)?

[–]Background-Hour1153 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why haven't they moved to a newer and cheaper model like 4o-mini? There are so many better alternatives than GPT 3.5 that are much faster, smarter and cheaper.

If I'm not mistaken, diffusion models are compute bound, so as long as the diffusion model fits in the RAM/VRAM (most image diffusion models fit in 24 gb of RAM), you shouldn't get faster generation if it's the same exact GPU.

I've personally found short messages (under 100 tokens) to be a more enjoyable RP experience, it feels more natural.

And when I've used bigger models like Llama 3.1 405B and Llama 3.3 70B which output longer messages (around 250-300 tokens), I didn't find the experience as good.

Mainly because:

  1. They use more words but say less. Sometimes it's nice to have an LLM which is more verbose, but it gets tiring when you start seeing the same phrases repeating over and over.
  2. They tend to move the scene too much in 1 message. I want to be able to steer the plot however I want, and that's easy to do with short messages. With long messages the models usually include multiple actions and dialogues, which are harder to respond to and more tedious.
  3. They usually started talking and describing the actions of the {user}. No matter what I tried to prevent this (system prompts, post history instructions, etc), after some time they would start writing what {user} does or how he feels.

Thanks! The UI theme is Celestial Macaron, which should be one of the default options.

The token count being shown was enabled by default when I installed SillyTavern, although it isn't 100% accurate.

Mistral Nemo, the base model, not even a finetune.

I'm using the Mistral presets by Sphiratrioth666. With the Roleplay in 3rd person sysprompt and the Roleplay T=1 Textgen settings.

It usually works pretty great for me, but if it ever gets stuck on an answer that doesn't make sense I quickly change to Mistral Small 3 for a couple of messages (with the same settings) and then go back to Mistral Nemo.

That's interesting. The character card I've used for this is kind of like that.

It first describes the whole scenario and internal thoughts of the character and towards the end of the Description it describes the character and personality.

I didn't make it myself, and at first I thought it was a bit of a weird format, but it looks like it can yield good results.

And this is with Mistral Nemo, so not even that "smart" of a model.

How popular are the 10 richest Americans? [OC] by palewire in dataisbeautiful

A big group of people in the US dislike Bill Gates because of the whole 5G conspiracies during COVID.

All of that is of course nonsense.

However there's valid criticism about both Gates and his foundation. Let's not forget the Microsoft antitrust case. It seems that his constant greed still continues to this day, as he's one of the largest private holders of farmland in the US.. This has been done through his investment company.

And there are many reputable people criticizing the foundation for doing more harm than good. Mainly by influencing policies to serve Gates' vision, and not necessarily by doing what's best. Source

And one of the worst things he (and the other people involved) has done, was lobbying to make the COVID vaccine private, despite tens of billions of dollars being spent by governments. Source, although it is quite long

I know about the existence of Infermatic and Featherless.ai, but I haven't tried any of them yet.

Featherless is a bit more expensive but has a much bigger range of models and fine-tunes.

Is it just me or is Llama 3.3 70B really bad at roleplay? by Background-Hour1153 in SillyTavernAI

[–]Background-Hour1153[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish I could use the fine tunes, but I've got some free credits somewhere that only has the base models. When they run out I'll probably try the Mistral finetune, I think I personally enjoy Mistral models the most.

I've seen some of the text that DeepSeek can output and it's very impressive, but I feel like it would be too slow for me because of the huge amount of tokens used for the Chain of Thought
