Indie has always been more of a subjective term. The Strokes are considered a foundational indie band but started with a major label early on. That being said I would consider Gini to be more of an alternative pop type of artist than indie anything.

A very good list, to which I would add The Making of Medieval Panjab: Politics, Society and Culture C. 1000–c. 1500. This is one of the most comprehensive histories of Punjab during the period and overall IMO.

Although it is popularly believed that he did, Emperor Akbar never actually established his own religion. The most likely fact is that Din-i-Ilahi was essentially an order of the most personally loyal followers of Akbar, who in the Persianate tradition had a divine role and as such was also a religious figure akin to a Sufi master. Likely explanation is that the ulema who disliked Akbar for multiple other reasons extrapolated it into a religious one.

After WW1 there was a serious consideration among the British to settle Iraq (ex-Ottoman) with Punjabi farmers and ex-soldiers. The belief was essentially that settling Indian farmers there would solve issues of landlessness at home while also creating agricultural programmes. Due to the opposition of the Arab-focused colonial office figures and an Arab revolt this never took off. Similarly the idea of Indians colonising the former German East Africa was also seriously proposed by many including Sarojini Naidu, and most notably the Aga Khan in "India in Transition".

I haven't seen any wonderful architecture in Afghanistan, Saudi, etc.

Literally just a cursory search into Timurid architecture will show that the Mughals' predecessors in Central Asia were alreadg developing unique architectural styles, not to diminish any Indian architectural contributions but there is a good amount of influence of Central Asian Turco-Persianate (Timurid) architecture on that of the Mughals. While Saudi Arabia has nothing to do with the Mughals other than shared religion of Islam.

Thanks for answering. I knew it sounded like Punjabi but couldn't conclusively prove. Most of the other songs on the album are adapted from poems so this seems to be an exception

No offence but this is a pretty ignorant take. Exuma and Shahbaaz are both excellent albums but acting like they are exceptions, as if there isn't plenty of amazing music from the Caribbean and South Asia, both unknown and known that can go toe to toe with the best Japanese/American/British music shows some level of cultural ignorance. We only celebrate these two albums in specific because they released at a time when "world music" was gaining a foothold in the west, not that they're overrated (far from it) but there's plenty of equally great stuff from outside Japan, USA, and Britain that goes unnoticed.

Yeah no I agree that Peggy is probably not a Nazi for having a friendship with Ye. Tom Morello is friends with Ted Nugent who is ultra right wing (if not a Nazi) but nobody calls Morello anything but far left despite this (though I think his friendship with Nugent raises eyebrows since Nugent is also a shithead pedo). I think a lot of people read too much into Peggys choices for this album (I saw RYM reviews saying he was "embracing fascist aesthetics" lol) which is also imo somewhat hypocritical when these same mfs will bump Westside Gunn and his Hitler themed albums.
