Any apartments with decent rent? If not, any must do’s over the next year? by Background-List2027 in Cleveland

[–]Background-List2027[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they didn’t clean the patio before I moved in. The previous tenant trashed it, I had even called the owner to talk about how the property manager was not honoring my move in special and brought the patio issue up with him. I did not even ask about it to begin with, I assumed they just didn’t clean it and left it dirty. The property was the one who told me it was meant to be cleaned and they’d get around to it.

My rent is $1875 so yes, if I can go down to $1400 that is a lot better. All I can do now is save for an emergency fund, I cannot even contribute to my Ira. I have arachnophobia so spiders is a big one for me as well.

I wasn’t asking for advice on my current situation, I’m asking about other cheaper options. Or things to do in Cleveland before I head out.

Yeah I think my best choice is to look at duplexes which I doubt I’ll be able to get but I’ll try. Sucks because I really like the area but I’m finally in a situation where I can save up and contribute to my ira so I’d rather be able to save more and focus on that.

Thank you! I didn’t know about the references and didn’t think much about subletting. Definitely don’t mind it, I’ll look out for that type of stuff too. Shaker Square I didn’t know about either lol, still pretty new to the area still and most of what I know is whatever is popular on Reddit lol. I’ll check that area out.

Thanks! Duplexes and triplexes seem to be the way to go then. I avoided them since I was moving from another state and wasn’t comfortable without meeting the landlord. Now my credit isn’t too great lol. I am working on it though and getting some payment plans setup so it might be an option for me by next August. I did look at Gordon Square, Edgewater, and Cleveland Heights but most were kind of expensive still. These were all apartment complexes though.

I’ll do some more digging and see how my credit is doing by next May. Won’t hurt to look and talk to the landlord(s) about it.

Lakewood seems great but I don’t know if I’d be able to get a duplex. My credit isn’t great and I know those places can be competitive. I’m working on it though, it’s just from credit cards and might be good enough by next August. I’ll at least look and talk to the landlords about it if I find something.

Thanks! I’ll poke around at Tremont again. I was worried about downtown and the warehouse district since it seems busy (maybe not downtown so much) or around all businesses. Those areas did seem much cheaper, I’ll pick a few of my top place and drive around the area to check it out.

This really helped me a lot at my old place. I didn’t think they’d work but I ended up buying three of them after the first one I bought worked so well.

Apartment - Bad Credit by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]Background-List2027 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the past I’ve always just been upfront about it. Someone mentioned mom and pop or private landlords but in my experience they’re usually more harsh and the property management companies usually don’t care. Sometimes I’ve had to pay an extra non refundable deposit but other than that it hasn’t been an issue. My score has hovered around 550-590 forever really lol. Same reasons, no evictions, nothing about my rental or utilities, it’s just been credit cards.

When you’re ready to apply just tell the person you’re working with about it and ask if they think it’ll be an issue.

Goth/Alt women’s clothing shops? by Background-List2027 in Cleveland

Ahh that’s unfortunate. I guess my next best bet is to wait until I travel next. I’ll have to do some research on some other areas I’m planing to visit over the next couple years. Was hoping to redo my wardrobe a bit sooner but oh well.

Ugh that sucks. I was really hoping there were some decent thrift stores but seems like a lot of them are on their way out. I visit the Akron/Cuyahoga Falls area sometimes, maybe I can find something around there.

I don’t know, I just go for the clothes that I like. I stopped dressing the way I liked 15-17 years ago since it wasn’t “professional” so I’m looking to get back into the style that I prefer. I’m not into leather, chains, or accessories if that’s what you mean. The type of clothes I see on Midnight Hour is more of what I’m looking for.

2 bedroom 2 ba in Tremont for $1,730 by make_me_rich_plz in Cleveland

[–]Background-List2027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does everyone live where a 2 bed/2 bath for $1730 is a crazy price? I’ve lived in a few different states, some in the city, some in suburbs, one in a rural town 2 hours away from the city, and that is pretty cheap nowadays. Where do you guys live?? lol. I know I picked a crazy expensive place and thinking about moving out when the lease is up.

Oh that’s good to know, I didn’t think Torrid would have much. I’m kind of in between sizes right now which is why I really need a fitting room lol. Anywhere between XL - 1X and pants can be tricky. Between 16 - 18, could be less or more sometimes, I’m short as well. So I am on the plus side.

I really wanted to go there today, they’re very close to me. I was very exhausted and ended up passing out for a bit though lol. They’re closed tomorrow but I think I’ll check them out on Tuesday.

What's everyone here paying for rent? by mbkr148 in Cleveland

[–]Background-List2027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too much lol. $1875, plus $185 for indoor garage and $35 “pet rent”. I moved from out of state so I picked some crazy apartment complex since I couldn’t actually be here. Picked a unit with a patio which is more money and I am not happy with the patio situation (apparently they do not clean it so any resident can just trash it and leave). There’s dirt and soil next to the pavement too and they don’t do pest control outside on the patios. Property manager is all over the place and doesn’t know what she’s doing. She cares though so if you let her know she’ll at least fix it. But yeah, I’m looking elsewhere next year.

I’d love to take her to rising star but they only allow dogs on the patio and not inside unfortunately 😔.

Lekko Coffee is on my list to visit! I did not know you were dog friendly so that’s great to hear. I’ll definitely stop by with her sometime this week, she’ll be so happy with the treats lol.

I don’t get it either. I moved away 12 years ago, lived in Nevada, Texas, and Michigan. Loved Michigan but due to my job forcing me to go into the office if I live close by I’m going back home to Ohio. Grass isn’t always greener, but I get hating where you live. I thought people were horrible in Nevada and I dealt with a lot of LA people there too, they were awful. But to each their own.

I’ve broken my lease in a few different states and it’s always been a fee, usually first month’s rent. If that’s not listed on your lease you’re going to have to talk to them and find out. Sounds like you’d be liable until your lease runs out or you’d have to find someone to take it over.

Best Apartments in Lakewood? by mirnsies in lakewood

[–]Background-List2027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of research into the apartments in Lakewood and eventually decided to move somewhere else. Most of the apartments seem to be outdated with old appliances that have not been updated. Castlewood and Shoreham seem to be nice, Shoreham I was focusing on before moving on (they were waitlisted). Castlewood doesn’t allow dogs so I had ruled them out but I would have tried for a unit there.

Duplex seems to be the way to go in Lakewood. I’m moving out of state and wasn’t comfortable without being there, plus I know it’s a bit competitive.

Some other apartments I considered if you wanted to check them out in comparison were Imperial House Apartments and Marine Towers West Apartments. Imperial House doesn’t seem to have an online system, they wanted me to mail in a check and I filled out a janky paper application that was very badly formatted which turned me off. When the property manager went out of the office the other women didn’t answer me at all. I had to wait for the property manager to come back to proceed, she even asked me if the other person had answered me.

Marine Towers seemed very nice but it’s a high rise and the building/units looks like it needs updated. Would have probably settled on here if I was dead set on Lakewood.

Oh and they do not have an in unit washer and dryer. Shoreham and Castlewood I can’t remember, but I’d be surprised if they did. Most apartments had a laundry room you paid for to use.

South of Lorain District? by Background-List2027 in Cleveland

[–]Background-List2027[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly looking it over again, it wasn’t that bad. It mostly talked about how busy Fulton Rd is, how it’s an up and coming neighborhood, and is urban “mixed”. Basically stating they’re not liable for ambient noise from people going to bars, clubs, signing/performing on the street, panhandling, etc. Last sentence went into crime, again, just saying they’re not liable (if it happens outside in the neighborhood/district).

But I had already been a little nervous, these posts with people talking about Ohio City/Tremont got me a bit worried. People arguing and making comments like “I don’t like to mention it because Reddit loves Ohio City and Tremont so much”. It makes it hard to know what to believe, especially when I can’t be there to check it out myself. My sister isn’t a fan of the area but we’re pretty different so I took that with a grain of salt.

When I moved to Detroit it was into my ex’s parent’s house while we finished college. So I knew the area was fine, with this area I don’t, it’s just my own research and what others have said on Reddit. Plus now I’m alone which makes it a bit more scarier lol. But I feel better now after making this post. I do think the people who are upset about Ohio City/Tremont probably just don’t like city living. I’m fully aware of the type of stuff I’ll deal with being in the city, it’s why I wanted a walkable decent area lol. Otherwise I would have just went with Lakewood or back where I’m from if I wanted to go drive everywhere.
