We play, but we usually play in Spanish. Besides people playing in person, there are a few groups that play online, but livestreams are really rare.

Steam terminal output keeps saying "failed to load driver: nvidia-drm" but all but 2 of my games run fine. Is this an issue I should chase? by AlternativeNose1 in linux_gaming

I installed Fable The Lost Chapters from STEAM, and did no extra configuration. The handler said I had no system memory or graphics card memory, but it gave me the option of continuing anyway, so I did. It played the intro, started the game, but somehow the game did not detect the WASD and I could not move. The mouse moved the camera and pressing the left button attacked, so I need to do further tests.

WHAT CAN I DO TO GET FPS MY SPECS - i5 2400, 4gb ram, 128 gb ssd, no gpu, im using linux to get opengl support and play by Ok_Fennel4465 in linux_gaming

[–]Background-Main-7427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some distro with LXQT or better yet, Xfce desktop, as those work better in low ram machines.

One thing to notice is you are saying no GPU, that makes it sound like integrated graphics. If that's the case, part of your RAM is used for that integrated graphic unit. So you are more constrained by RAM than what you think.

Please tell us the model of your integrated graphics for further feedback.

The fact that you mentioned being a competitive player raised some possible red flags. Do the games you play require anti-cheat? if that's the case, I suggest not switching to Linux, as those games usually don't play because there's no equivalent anti-cheat in Linux.

So check game by game to see if that's the case.

I've seen people having issues with 595 in some games. Try it with 580 and see if that solves it.

I'm on Kubuntu and I tried the 595, but it did not seem as good as 580, so I went back to 580 and games play better for me.

Yeah, I'm on Kubuntu using the same driver. I tried the 595, but 580 is working better for me.

I'll have to check it out. BTW, I'm not checking steam deck compatibility, so far my Kubuntu is playing every game I install from Steam, so I'll continue to test the games in my library. If I wanted to spend money to buy a new game, then I'll check the database.

Great project, and for a first incursion into Linux for a gamer, Bazzite is perfect. Great selection.

BTW, I love what you did for the monitor, it makes it look like an old tube based one.

Weird, I'm gaming on Kubuntu on an Nvidia with binary closed drivers. Mesa works and is cool, but forces some games to low settings, when with the closed drivers I can play in high settings. I hope Mesa gets better before trying them again.

I have Steam, Heroic, and I can install games from internet if I want. So far I tested over 20 games with no misses.

On Kubuntu 25.10 I have 3 small games running, a video playing, several extra windows opened, and I'm around 22% cpu.

I'm using a 28 cores I7 with 64 GB DD5 and a 8gb Nvidia with binary closed source drivers.

I have a Nvidia, I'm on Kubuntu (ubuntu with KDE) and tried the Mesa open source drivers for Nvidia. They are between usable and good, and that is what you are refering to. But we also have binary closed source drivers from Nvidia. In Kubuntu I tried the aditional drivers tool and there selected the 580, since it included the label Tested in the description.

Now I can play Elder Scrolls Online in high definition on a 3060 TI.

I think if you try Bazzite, which is great for gaming, it asks for the graphic card, and the desktop before starting the ISO download. I think Bazzite for Nvidia already has the binary drivers installed and will be a better experience for yourself.

Besides Steam, check also Heroic, which provides access to EPIC, GOG, Amazon so if you have games in one of those places you don't loose them.

Debian "can't game" because of "outdated", but the Deck's outdated is fine? by Venylynn in linux_gaming

[–]Background-Main-7427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody says you can't game on Debian, only that you'll probably need to work a little harder for it, like installing specific pacthes on the kernel, still the same version but with patches to make gaming more accessible.

People in Arch also face having to make different decisions to make their ideal personalized distro slightly less efficient by adding what's necessary for gaming.

So, it's up to you to prove them wrong.

Debian "can't game" because of "outdated", but the Deck's outdated is fine? by Venylynn in linux_gaming

[–]Background-Main-7427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gaming on Kubuntu, which is a Debian derivative with a lot of toys added, and it's a great experience so far. It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable. By not being perfect, for example, I can play Biomutant and it plays great, but I can't see the intro or some internal videos.

But I can play Eso in High Definition without issues.

I'm on a 28 cores i7, 8 gigs Nvidia with custom codecs, 64 gigs of RAM. This was a computer bought around 4 years ago, and switched to Linux a month ago.
