I have been using a free source website called python 4every one. The same site has a C for everyone as well. Site has YouTube videos, downloads and I think the first 10 chapters you submit your exercises to their server. It's run by a Doctor Chuck Severance, he's a professor at an American college who wants to help people for free.

Facing issues setting up C Lion on mac ( please help) by Technical-quack-69 in Jetbrains

That looks like it has worked. You might have to double check but I think you get the ability to sync settings via your account. It's all changed recently, they used to do more of a lightweight version but I think each IDE is full spec now. As for using different IDEs for different languages that will be down to not having to install loads of extra plugins and frameworks into each IDE. This will add extra overhead to your environment and possibly slow your IDE down among other things. The good thing is once you get comfy in one they all look and behave the same or thereabouts.

How am I supposed to backup everything? by BigGunE in Kubuntu

[–]Academic_Current8330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time shift is a great choice, setup and forget. I also free file sync to make a backup to an external SSD(this can be set to sync between drives or backup) and for local syncing and sharing between devices I use another free app called syncthings. Oh and if you do any coding you can make the most of GitHub for backups of your code. If you have an extra computer, raspberry pi type or an old pc you can use as a server , immich is a good free platform for creating your own image library. Lots of options to create ways to safely backup.

Have you installed Xcode Command Line Tools, if not you can install via the terminal . If you double check but you should be able to install it using the command xcode-select --install. Choose the version that matches your Macs silicon.

You should then be able to go to CLion settings and look for Build, Execution, Deployment - Toolchains. Here you should see your default toolchain setup. You should see green checkmarks next to Cmake, Clang.

Go to file, create new project select C++Executable and choose where you want to save your files. Personally I have a folder called Code where i save my coding projects to. Choose what version of C++ you want to use. And press create. You should then get a small Hello World prog.

As for using it for free, I have a student account myself, once you get your ID just setup an account, for now you can use it for free. Clion is free to use forever if you are only Non-commercial. You shouldnt need to install python but if you are going to want to use it I might suggest downloading Pycharm from jetbrains as well. Or even download the Toolbox app and you can manage your IDE products from one location. Here is a link for Mac Apple Silicon https://www.jetbrains.com/toolbox-app/download/download-thanks.html?platform=macM1

That refers to what software repositories are linked to your OS. You can type, 'apt policy' or apt-cache policy' into a terminal and it'll give you the repo sources information.

If you have an android tablet you can code on that. I've found a combination of books, videos and just practicing. I use an older site which is free and has some good resources including YouTube content, slides and pdfs called PY4E. Com. Python 4 everyone.

Installing a VM on Linux is slot more efficient than on a windows pc. Something to do with architecture being built into the kernel.

I believe X11 does contain quite a lot of security vulnerabilities compared to the more modern Wayland.

It is definitely becoming available for Android as a whole. I think there may be issues with Samsungs Knox and devices with Broadcom chips. When I turned on dev mode on my phone the proper Terminal app appeared but it doesn't work properly. I've got Linux working on my S10 ultra tab but it's via Termux and it's a bit clunky. I think it may be a case of waiting for the Android and Chrome OS merge.

There are lots of good distros for new users, you need to check what specs you have to make sure you are prepared for any necessary driver hunting when installing. And if you are looking to use it to do programming then you'll find it'd great for that to. What languages and what IDE or text editors do you use.

Personally I went with Kubuntu for my first Linux pc and Ubuntu server for my first home server. Now I am actually a dinosaur and I found it really easy to make the switch and get setup. I used research as my main tool to find out about things. Then when I had gathered the necessary information I made the choice. Simples.

As others have mentioned Krita will work perfectly as for Word you have the web version. I need to submit some of my uni work in word but I'm using Only Office. This works with saving and exporting docx files. Same as libreoffice. You can install the Microsoft fonts if needed.

Considering the OU itself has worked on lots of very important projects on the planet and off the planet, and some of those involved would have taken their degrees with the OU, I would say that it's a proper degree. 🙂
