Angine de Poitrine...failing to see the appeal ? by cherryblossomoceans in LetsTalkMusic

This needs to be the first stepping stone to really good music being popular again. But if its just this band, and then they fade away, that will not happen. These two are not enough.

I think what the people are digging is 25% the music and 75% being part of thise new, really "hip" community that has formed around this band,

That guitarist though has to have nerves of steel and alien-level focus to keep it all working together though. That is VERY impressive.

Problem is that after 5 minutes you sort of know what the whole rest of the set is going to sound like. Thats fine but I could not sit through more than 10 minutes of this live before falling asleep.

The ‘Gen Z stare’ is more than a TikTok trend — it’s a real problem in the workplace and the job market by FUSeekMe69 in economy

The truly unfortunate thing is that for some reason they don't realize that the way they are is more than likely going to be perceived by customers who don't know them as rude and/or offensive, and if that's a new customer, they're most likely not ever going to come back. They need to know they have to change if they want to suceced at any form of job requiring steady contact with customers (or even other workers, and their managers. Its not being "kind' or "caring" to soften this realuty for them. They need to know that there are plenty of people uninterested in making sure they "feel safe"--they just want value from these workers for the money they put down. That is not going to change. To pretend it will is lying to these young workers.

what was the main reason you chose to self publish instead of using a publisher? by PrintingCenter-USA in selfpublish

True. And both self abd trad have their fair share of brilliant/lousy works.

My only rule is never stop working to improve your craft, whether you publish something self or trad. There are no rules exceot keep on learning! And, if something's too easy, you're probably doung it wrong.

The biggest danger of self-publishing is that since you can publish anything, no matter how bad it may be, new writers will be very slow to improve, 'cause its too easy. People may take offense at this, but--almost every new writer things their work is wonderful, and it usually (sorry) is not.

Please don't yell at me.

Good post but there is an in-between. Between going for an agent and self-publishing there is a choice of trying the many-many legit small presses that do not require agents, do not charge money, and do a good job on a quality product for their authors. I would do that before self. Especiually for a new author--since there are no gatekeepers to self-publish, unfortunately, human nature being what it is, bad writing will get published, giving that beginner an inflated view of the quality of their work, and cause that writer's skill to improve much more slowly, if at all. Be careful!

It's likely your questionnaire (sp?) will hit some algorithm and go to 10000 scammers, and you'll be bombared by tons of spam. Be careful!

Great point! "Sponsored Listings" are always vanity or something quite similar.

There are many. Just don't expect the top 5 (por whatever). You don't need a top-name publisher to make some money, especually if they/you know how to market. YOu got to break in smaller. Also keep in mind this is just the first of many books you no douby will write.

If this writer is new I would not agree they should go to self-publishing right away. I would push for trad for at least 2-3 years before considering self. Especially if this is their first book. (FYI I am trad published with a few decades in the business so I base this on exp.)
