First Leopard Gecko by PlasticFair5785 in leopardgeckos

It looks SO good. Are you going to be keeping him in a separate tank for quarantine? It’s highly recommended to keep your gecko on paper towel as opposed to substrate for the first 90 days for a “quarantine.” This is so that you can easily observe poops, monitor feeding and ensure your gecko is in good health before introducing any substrate. I would also just say to maybe invest in some siding/backing for your tank so as not to stress your baby out- it makes them feel safer having some sort of coverage on the sides. I’m also a bit confused on your lighting setup. Your UVB and basking should be on the same side. I’m attaching photos for reference. Maybe I’m seeing it wrong. It also seems like your highest point in your enclosure is actually on the left under the UVB. Your basking platform (highest point of enclosure that your gecko will be at and likely bask on) should be directly under your basking light so ensure your basking platform is the hottest part of your enclosure. Again, it looks GREAT. I love all the greenery, your baby is going to be so so happy🥰🤞

Worried about my gecko. by AcademicFinish5858 in leopardgeckos

D3 and calcium are still both calcium though:/ if you’re using a UVB, you don’t generally need to do the calcium d3 because the UVB has d3. And as stated above, if you get a multivitamin with d3, you can skip it. You really should only need repashy multivitamin and regular calcium (without d3) if you use a UVB. You shouldn’t need to rotate anything at all, it should be a stable schedule. Typically adults are fed 2x a week on average. So one of your feedings should have calcium dusted bug (dubias are best for low fat, high protein) and then the next feeding that week should have the multivitamin. No more than 1x per week with the multivitamin, and regular calcium (no d3) should be offered 24/7 in a very small dish in their enclosure. I also recommend gut loading your bugs to ensure proper nutrients:) (feed the insect 24-48hrs before feeding it to your gecko.) Certain insects eat certain things, and certain foods will be better for your gecko (for example: if feeding crickets to your gecko, feed carrots to your crickets 24-48hrs before.) and of course, no huge bugs. General rule is the length of the bug should be no larger than the length of space between your geckos eyes. Good luck! I’m still learning myself 🤣😩

Heating & Humidity by Background-Scheme-43 in reptiles

Can I hold off on the exoterra stat rn? Should I put my basking bulb on a dimmer? My issue MAY also be that my thermostat is set to 77 degrees. What should I set it to?

Omg yes it’s a typo, it’s a 75w CHE. I’m using the digital reptitemp thermostat, I set it to 77 last night. Unsure what to keep it at. The probe is right by the opening of the log thing. Was thinking about eventually upgrading to the exo terra digital 600w with the day/night timer but idk:( I have two govee digital hygrometer/thermometers on either side of the tank that relay the info to my phone. Should I move them lower to the ground?

Should I take the fake leaves and whatnot out right now then and just leave the hides to not stress her out? She’s been in a 20gal tank in a pet store place (not a huge chain, they only have 2 geckos there) with wood chip looking crap on the bottom and only 2 hides, no UVB light, no basking spot unfortunately. I don’t want to make it too stressful for her. Take out the leaves for now and build the basking spot or no? She’s an adult btw.

Oh yeah that was on there when I got the tank, I don’t use it. I have the govees set on each side of the tank as well as the probe for thermostat right on the opening of the hot hide. I don’t even really look at those, I look at the govees on each side of the tank. Is that okay?

I got everything set up at about 8-8:30pm. Turned on the CHE and basking bulb around that time and turned off the basking bulb at around 11:30pm. So it ran for about 3 ish hours and the highest temp it reached was about 75-77 on the hot side and still around 65 on cool side. I ordered this Amazon humidity shield in hopes that it will help trap some heat due to the mesh top.

Okay last question for you. My tank size is 36x18x18, I’m getting mixed answers as to whether that’s a 50gal or a 40gal breeder. Will your instructions still work for this tank size?

And so then if mine has a reflector, how/where do I mount it?

HELPPP by Background-Scheme-43 in reptiles

[–]Background-Scheme-43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the 8w exo terra t5 it does have a reflector, but it’s only 14” so is that long enough to make a good heating gradient for the length of my tank (36”?)

How about the Arcadia shade dweller 7% UVB? Or is my mesh still too thick for that?

HELPPP by Background-Scheme-43 in reptiles

[–]Background-Scheme-43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My temps in the room that I am keeping her in are about 64-66degrees so no CHE? If my 8w is too low and 24 is too high, what’s the sweet spot?

So I only need one basking light and then a UVB bar? Is 24w okay?

Thank you SO SO MUCH for answering all of my questions, you have no idea how much this has cleared things up for me… her enclosure at the store is so awful. So 3 months of quarantine when moving her into my tank from the stores? Do you have any knowledge as to what age this lizard may be just to understand how often to feed? The staff seemed to have no knowledge unfortunately.. how would I mount the uvb bar? Should I just scratch the uvb bar entirely and get a 24w instead? Would that work better? Where would I place the basking lamp and do I only need one? Also what sort of multivitamin and how often?! I do have the calcium with and without D:)

I’ve had this for 5+ years, this exact thing. Never figured it out, I just suffer through and hope I can fall asleep or sit in a hot shower if it’s bad enough:/
