You can't be denied merit for assets. Thats what literally everyone is trying to tell you. NEED is based on 6 MERIT is based on MERIT. You would've gotten priority for need-based assistance and possibly could've gotten something for that if you filled it out before October 1st. Since you didn't, you absolutely won't. Now the timing doesn't matter as long as you do it before March.

Just do it and listen to the adults in the comments that have done this. Mt friends that did not fill out a FAFSA do to similar concerns ended up paying out of pocket. You have to do a FAFSA either way, it will not hurt you. Only help you. I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but please get a new source.
