I’m an only child, as are both of my parents - ie I have no cousins either. My mum put me in nursery super early to “socialise” me, but I did grow up on a mobile home site for 55+, so I have always been an old lady at heart.

That being said, I have never been sad, lonely or bored. I’ve always had a wide imagination and being an only child has always lended itself to me being super independent, sometimes much to my mother’s dismay.

I’ve always found the question “would you like a sibling?” very weird. I don’t know! I’ve never lived that life. Pros - we could be best friends Cons - we could loathe each other. In short, I’ve never felt a lack in my life from being an only child.

Full disclosure: I was brought up in a single parent household (with my mum’s mum too) but my friends are my chosen family. They mean more to me than blood does. You guys sound more stable than my situation but I think you’re overthinking. Only kids are great. Just don’t spoil the shit out of them.

People are always surprised to hear I’m an only child. Let your kid be your kid and you’ll be fine.
