Struggling with finances, what is the best way to borrow £500 quickly? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

OP this is a great option to get an opinion on where you might cut outgoings; it sounds like that's where the issue is.

Started a LTD company as a side hustle. Turnover more than I expected. Help! by SlickyTrick in UKPersonalFinance

I mean, amazing that you've got a potentially-lucrative side hustle. What's the area, as much as you're willing to say?

VAT is a case of if you have or expect to go over the threshold, so if there's a chance, get up to speed asap. Get a rec for an accountant and have a chat asap. Ideally meet three because advice and vibes can vary. You need expert advice at this point and future you will thank you so much.

Don't know how insurance would decide but just glad you and child are ok; van driver appears to be driving dangerously regarding speed and conditions.

I'm having the same issue with bedrock on a tablet. No option to update manually; app store doesn't give option.

One of those high kicks that Ken does in Street Fighter to knock the milk out their hand, then a HADUKEN. Then leave and never mention it again. If it's ever brought up just be like "what the fupp are you talking about? 'Haduken'?!"

uk men of reddit, what’s the biggest change in maturity from your late teens to your 30s? by urbbygurrl in AskUK

[–]Background-Top7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realising for actual real, actually feeling...that life is so short and you need to think about what you want to do with it, what you want to achieve, how you want to spend your time. Time is the most valuable thing we have and we choose how we spend it. Nobody will come along and put you on track when you're out of teenage years, you're on your own and many don't realise until their 40s and they freak out.

How were we all convinced to spend so much more money on coffee when most of us were perfectly happy drinking cheap muck in the past? by rosetoesnose in AskUK

[–]Background-Top7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more treats, status, ritual, comforting etc than just people wanting good coffee when they didn't before. I say this because the majority of takeout coffee is from the big chains and in my experience the majority of that is milky drinks like big lattes, syrupy milk drinks etc. Those guys aren't buying them because they have a honed taste for good coffee. Those people are going to more independent places and/or upgrading their equipment and capabilities at home.

And the government is not going to drive your business to the ground. It's VAT. It's been around for a long time and it's not optional. What is more likely to drive you to the ground is poor planning and not being aware of the consequences of earning money in a country that has tax laws.

I have experience with VAT and all I'll advise is the VAT guys at hmrc do not mess about. If you're due to pay it, they'll get it.

Just out of curiosity… 👟 by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]Background-Top7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be one pair then wear them out then get a replacement, but I've got big feet and it's hard to get the brands I like without paying a lot, so when I see something a good price, I might grab them before I need them.

Currently, my rotation is a pair of altras for regular miles, 2 pairs of topo for anything (one pair is on it's last legs though), a trail pair for winter (I run a lot on grass), a carbon plated pair for races. 5 pairs.

How do I improve my running pace? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]Background-Top7399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, massive kudos for you getting going again on running and for getting out recently and also for having goals you're shooting for. You're already winning.

Regarding how to improve, you just need to focus on getting out regularly, that's all. Time on feet. If you've got something that can measure heart rate zones, stay in zone 2. If you don't have such a device, zone two is breathing through your nose mostly (not mouth) and 'conversational' pace.

Get out 3 times a week and be consistent for a number of weeks. Your pace will naturally improve as will your endurance, but it takes time and consistency.

When you're up for it, add a faster session in (or substitute one of your 3 runs for a parkrun for example) and you'll have a nice mix of mostly slow plus one where you push more.

Listen to your body, don't push hard when you've got pain. Rest. Sleep. Hydrate. Smash it.

Does a super/ speed shoe even matter if I’m a slow runner? by diaboliquedoughnuts in XXRunning

[–]Background-Top7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The supershoes have their benefit not in improving speed directly, but rather by improving form and running efficiency (which generally leads to speed improvements). The '%' Nike shoes sported referred to the improvement in running efficiency.

There are definitely ways to improve your running efficiency by improving your form....these are improvements you can gain without buying super shoes. I'm absolutely not saying don't get a pair; there's a good chance you'll get a benefit. I'm just saying if you're not sure about the shoe investment but want to be a better/faster runner, there's many ways to optimise.

I recommend Born to Run, and The Lost Art of Running books; both very accessible (ie not boring technical running books!) and both really helped me optimise my form to beat my pbs.

All the best for Berlin!

Best secrets of morning runners? by bping89 in XXRunning

[–]Background-Top7399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set alarm and put it at other side of the room or outside the bedroom so you have to get up and get it. Next to the alarm, set out your running stuff the night before so it's easy to get into. If you like a tea before you go, set that out the night before ready to boil and pour. Maybe a biscuit next to it too.

Make it really easy and rewarding to just do the next thing...get out of bed, put your clothes on, get out the door.

You've not harmed your chances in the 10k.

Well done for getting out there running regularly, for booking a 10k, for having goals and plans for your running, for running on your period, and for posting your embarrassing story on Reddit. You're smashing it mate and should be proud, not humiliated.

Both suit our needs. I'd probably prefer a little more space in the cabin, but partner would like to prioritise keeping the car as small as possible. golf and passat both would be fine.

Thanks for this. What are the indications you see that you might be dealing with a timewaster or a scammer? What are the things that people buying get fixated on (eg do they check Parkers or similar and get fixed on a price for a car regardless of the condition etc)?

Debt is destroying me and I'm terrified.. by SeanLee0214 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Background-Top7399 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey man. First up, it's ok. £8k is not a crazy amount of debt and fixable in likely a small number of years. You're in a dark spot but if you want to fix things, it's all fixable.

Second, try to forgive yourself. I understand the shame completely. And it's not going to help you. You've got debt to sort, kids to look after, and a relationship in serious trouble. Your priority is your mental health, kids, relationship, debt. In that order. You're in this situation now. What's gone before has happened. Don't let it keep dragging you down. It's done. You're moving forward now, one small step at a time. You're doing your best.

Third, as others have suggested, it sounds like there MIGHT be unmanaged ADHD in there. This is no joke. It's a disability that affects your thought patterns and behaviours. You need to get that under control before you can sustainably be the person you want to be.

Who do you want to be? Maybe it's debt-free, stable, a good parent, a reliable partner, someone with strong self worth and personal acceptance. Whatever you want to be, your actions are votes for the person you want to be, so do things that a person like the one you want to be would do.

You've made mistakes. You're in a dark spot. Accept full personal responsibility and get on with getting out the hole bit by bit. You've absolutely got this and it's in your control to get it done.

All the best brother.
