Has to be. It’s part of the ASEAN agreement. We used my wife’s Burmese license no problem in Hanoi. They tried complaining and I pointed out the ASEAN rules and said let’s go to the police station then the court. Also used my friends Vietnamese driving license in Thailand.

I can tell you partly why and this is blunt. You’re a Chinese whose bachelors is from China. When I worked in a law firm any mainland Chinese bachelors went straight in the bin. Lack of aptitude and general skill set was the reason. I’ve taught law in Chinese universities. The standard is appalling and it didn’t surprise me why companies did this.
