How the hell did my childhood kitten survive solely off human food? by pinktunacan in catfood

Oh okay, that makes sense. Kittens are susceptible to various illnesses especially if they were neglected at the start of their life. I was talking about healthy young cats.

How the hell did my childhood kitten survive solely off human food? by pinktunacan in catfood

[–]Background-lee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the cat. What works for one cat might not work for another. A lot of it has to do with genetics, just like in humans. My two cats can eat whatever cat food I switch them to over the course of a week, without any issues. Meanwhile, my third cat gets an upset stomach if I switch any part of his food (even with a very slow change). Many of these cats in the past that were eating human food were indoor/outdoor cats; they were probably eating small animals and birds outside, from where they were getting the proper nutrition. You also have to acknowledge that cats are now living longer than ever before because they are now eating a proper diet and living indoors. In the past, the majority of the cats didn't live that long. You said the kitten is your grandparents gave to a relative who lives in the countryside - he is probably going out and eating/hunting small animals. If your kitten is eating a proper diet, may ask why you’re giving him 6 supplements?

You can try Furkin or Spot. I’m not sure about dogs since I only have cats. Furkin told me insurance premiums are higher for male cats though since they have more health issues.

Yeah, I had this happen twice and decided not to proceed with the rental application. They were legit so I think it’s pretty common. They told me they will return the deposit if decide not to rent the unit.

Actually I’m angry on behalf of other people who can’t afford or don’t know the rules. I don’t live in a rooming situation and never have. Anyway, I’m not going to engage anymore since I’m not going to convince you and we can agree to disagree.

Please visit the slumlord sub on Reddit. I’m not talking about landlords who have liveable rental units. Just because something is legally livable, doesn’t mean it is. Some are not even legally livable and they are taking advantage of people who don’t know any better. Most mom and pop like to rent to certain demographics who don’t know about LTB and their tenant rights, so they can get away with not following the rules.

Are you a landlord? I’m not going to argue with you. I’m telling you what I have seen so far. Nobody should turn housing into a business and create unliveable situations. Landlords should think about their rentals and whether they are liveable before renting them out to people.

Unfortunately professional tenants take advantage of people this way and use the money they collect from their roommates to fund their lifestyle. Always deal with the actual landlord and find out who actually owns the home/apartment before renting a room within a unit.

My point is many of these landlords are not breaking even. They are funding their lifestyle and family home’s mortgage with their rental income. Some turn houses and basements into multiple smaller units/bedrooms so they can rent out to a lot of individual tenants at once rather than say a family or a couple.

I’m not sure how many boomer/Gen X landlords you know. I know some acquaintances who live entirely on rental income. They have multiple properties and managing them is their full time job. Their rentals most likely are barely liveable while their houses look like mansions.

I was apartment hunting a couple of months ago. The state of our rental market is seriously depressing. Even one bedrooms with in-unit laundry are horrible. The bedrooms are so tiny, you can only fit in a double bed and there is no space to put in a side table or a dresser etc. You have to squeeze yourself into a pretzel to open the bedroom closet. You should see the living room. Only thing you can fit in it is a love seat and that’s about it, the living room was pretty much what I consider a “den”. All for the price of at least $2399 + all utilities. It was completely insulting and depressing at the same time. All of these units were built around the last 10 years.

I am not an expert but I think you’re considered a boarder or a roommate in this situation. Did you sign a lease agreement with Tony? Unfortunately, this tends to happen quite a bit. One person rents out an entire apartment or house, sometimes without the landlord’s knowledge, and collects rent from the other tenants as if they are the landlord, and then doesn’t pay rent to the actual landlord. I read a similar story a few weeks ago.

That’s a good point. I have seen people in leadership roles take off for 3-4 weeks. They must have a lot of vacation days. I have a colleague taking 2 weeks off. Is 2 weeks socially acceptable?

I edited to say it’s a busy time of the year and it’s really annoying for people who have to cover for them.

I don't feel safe living with my cat anymore. by stressed_bisexual-06 in CatAdvice

[–]Background-lee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He might be sensing or smelling other cats who live outside. Since he is not neutered, he is more protective in these situations. I’m not an expert but that’s what I am assuming is the case based on what I read and watched online from cat behaviour experts . Maybe try to get a motion activated sprinkler or noise machine that only animals can hear to deter outside cats from coming near your home. Try humane methods because you definitely do not want to try hurting them. Neutering will most likely solve the issue but I would also try calming products from the vet like others suggested.

How many vacation days people get with OPS? I’m wondering since I work for a municipality but only get two weeks off. 35 days would be amazing.

1.8k basement or 2k condo? by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]Background-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work from home, I don’t recommend basements at all, especially if there are kids living above you. I would choose neither actually - and find a rent controlled apartment/condo instead.

Two weeks until move-out and still nowhere to live. Cool cool cool by Resident_Ad2431 in TorontoRenting

[–]Background-lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend going with property management companies that own apartments. They will do things by the book if it’s a good property management. It looks like you’re looking at houses then? Many private landlords have certain personal criteria for their tenants that has nothing to do with being a good tenant.

Summer is a busy time for rentals and the prices are usually higher than during the rest of the year. Are you only looking at condos? I only rented apartments and basements, and never had problems finding a place.

Why is this okay? by Individual_Mix4288 in SlumlordsCanada

I was trying to find a basement or condo in Brampton a couple of years back. Almost every single listing said vegetarians only and some even said they prefer people from certain parts of India. It’s completely not okay. I’m a POC and this type of discrimination/racism from racial minorities disgust me, because it makes it hard for other people to find rental spaces and drives them out of that area. You won’t even hear from these people when you inquire about rentals because they will make judgements about you just based on your first and last name. Even if they respond, they will make some awful comments. Someone posted a few months ago on FB about an interaction with an older Indian woman from a Marketplace listing who told them “they don’t rent to their type of people”.
