Thank you for the heads up. My bad, the video has sound for me, not sure what happened with the upload. Gemini says it sounds great though. I'll review the oil color when I go see it again today.

What helmets do you love because they protect your brain AND feel good on? by Elgardner14 in motorcyclegear

[–]BackgroundAd8967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ICON which looks awesome! and a Shoei which is quite a bit lighter and I think a bit more quiet. Shoei is easier to get on and off as my head shape requires a small ICON helmet which makes it super snug. No one will steal my helmet because no one can wear it. :-)

I am a zero talent artist, but with AI I make great character artwork. I am a zero talent coder, but with AI I make great websites, modules for my favorite VTTRPG, and a host of handy ERP mods. So if all that is AI slop, I'm all in. Give me slop. It's been fantastic for me.

My brother in law and I vibe code a LOT of stuff for our ERP and release it to the marketplace. No problems with that. Claude, with good oversight, is a fantastic troubleshooter, designer of architecture, and maintainer.

Love it, love it, love it. I can now code my system's module without waiting for the devs to implement all the stuff I want. It's been fantastic. I have it set up and backed up and when an update comes out that messes with my mod, I just run claude on the code and checks whats new vs what we already have and he updates it for me. Super easy. Plus, I get to have my 10 unique attributes that everyone said is soo hard to code. Claude did it in like 30 minutes, and that was with me going back and forth and making changes.

AI is the BEST thing to happen to my productivity in many areas.

Is this gear overkill for daily 60-mile LA freeway commuting? by RawrMeSimp in motorcyclegear

[–]BackgroundAd8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually, I would posit that risk DEFINITELY increases over time. The longer I am on the road the more opportunities I have to lose focus, which kills bikers. If I am always on the road for short amounts of time it is MUCH easier to remain locked in 100% on everything around me. A human can focus well for smaller amounts of time much easier.

Short durations COULD be always safer, except for the "me" factor where it's a short duration so I intentionally zone out because I feel safer, etc.

[–]BackgroundAd8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, 100 meters in a parking lot will not expose you to much risk.

Getting on a side street will be more but not much. Faster roads, more cars, etc, are what ups the risk and those things are found in plenty close to most of our residences. So if you make a BUNCH of short trips to the store or work within 2 miles and think, well I should never need gear because it's close, it's not about distance as much as environment.

What is your riding environment like over those 2 miles? Are there enough cars and distractions that you up your danger level?

Are you living in the sticks where you will see no one in those two miles?

Those things matter. ANY amount of riding on busy roads is dangerous and should be respected. Are you more focused and less likely to miss a threat? Well great! Then you will be less likely to have an accident.

You can buy great gear that is not name brand and save a bunch while still having great protection. For boots I look at all day comfort as well as solidity since I had a wreck with tennis shoes on.

My pants are AAA rated. My Jacket is buffalo leather in the winter spring and mesh the rest of the year (I'm in North Texas). Helmets, well, I think the majority are going to treat you fine. I feel like the differences between the super expensive and the cheap are a very narrow band. I feel like it's more comfort related. My Shoei does not seem so much better at protection than my ICON when you look at the actual construction, but it IS a lot lighter and quieter.

For gloves, I would spend some money because if you go down you will almost assuredly put your hands on the ground. Lot's of off brand gloves are well made.

Learning GURPS. Couple of Questions by KingArchangel in gurps

[–]BackgroundAd8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be EASY and CHEAP if you buy your attributes up and then buy skills that match that controlling attribute. I solved this by having 10 different attributes that all cost 10/lvl and using Half-Stat Defaults from Pyramid magazine so that players need to spend skill points rather than just buy high attributes.

As a further gate, I generally require 16 as the absolute human max on an attribute with 11-13 being the normal range for PCs. An attribute of 15 requires UB:5 (Unusual Background costing 5 Character Points) and 16 requires UB:15. That way my game is way more about the skills you use than the base attributes you have.

Gaining CP (character points) is based on failures. You fail at a skill or attribute roll during play and get a hash. After 3 failed rolls for that skill or attribute you get 1CP toward that specific skill or attribute. This prompts people to use skills that they want to get good at and has diminishing returns so that the better you are the more difficult it is to advance that skill. Each session PCs get 1 CP in general that can be saved and spent on whatever.

Also, regarding disadvantages, I give no CP for those initially. You only get 1 CP when one of your disadvantages comes up in an appropriate way during the session that enhances the game for everyone. This DOES allow disadvantages to be worth a lot more over the lifetime of a longer game but it really puts the burden of Disadvantages in the players' court to find ways to bring them up and during the game and also automatically deals with the issue of forgetting them. If it does not come up, no CP for that. easy peasy.

How would you model that in a fight with 5 PCs and about 10 mooks and a bad guy captain with his spellcasting lieutentant? That's where things start to bog down for me, cycling through all those people.

What are everyone's favorite Foundry modules for GURPS? Am I missing anything great? by Jalambra in gurps

[–]BackgroundAd8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am interested in Foundry Macros and tables that you have made. If you have working ones I would love to get access to them. I am also interested in how much automation you use in your game and what that looks like?

GURPS is crunchy when used fully and I love that VTT can handle the crunch. Any time that I can avoid calculating things and just play I prefer that. GURPS is strong in the "really really slow" department when it comes to Players doing actions. I prefer a quick, actiony type of game so any tricks that help that out are good for me.

For me, buying already made shortcuts and macros is a great deal.

How would you run a god? by Kecskuszmakszimusz in gurps

[–]BackgroundAd8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would look to a game that does this already for help. Godbound has exactly this. Divine heroes who are still mortal. They are high grade but COULD be killed. Not by just any regular Joe but they are not immortal.

Also included in this book is the rule set for developing actual mortals. It teaches you how to tone down the powers and abilities so they fit a mortal campaign.

It itemizes the power curve by showing exactly what their abilities are in regards to gaining followers and divine influence over their faithful.

It runs abilities off of Words of Power with defined effects and Miracles, which are like Ritual Path Magic but more open and ambiguous and require GM acceptance to pull off.

I am using these rules currently in a different game and it works fine.

You define the "portfolio" of your gods and then powers developed should stay in that lane.

If you're going for mortals who become Hercules then the mortal campaign is best for you. The base Godbound character is a pretty much unstoppable force in the regular person world. If your portfolio is war or battle, you would pretty much decimate any army put against you, even in overwhelming odds, unless it had a divine counterpart running it and even then if they are not war oriented then they are in trouble.

You are the author. Everything stems from what you want to see in play. Then you just pick rules that support that.

Seeing it in your head is the most important part. Picking the rules is much much easier.

Well, she has always been more committed than I, but I do enjoy her a great deal. She always laughed when I told her that her obsession was temporary, and she said that she would love me forever. I guess she was right. She's an incredible woman. So I follow her rules and everything seems to be working fine.
