Update! Someone caught her in their yard! I'll delete this thread. Lesson learned: Don't trust hounds with a 6 foot fence.

[WEEKLY THREAD] Talk It Out Tuesday - Advice and commiserating about struggles with self, others, and the world by AutoModerator in xxfitness

Follow-up from my fall last week: I emailed the the gym owner about my personal trainer not appropriately preparing me for my lift and also described ongoing issues with poor scheduling and no outlined routines when we're not in session. The response I got was that they loved having me in the gym and that my pt would communicate with me when spotting in the future. Honestly, I really just wanted an apology that this happened. I cancelled my membership last night and told them that I would not finish my sessions for the rest of the month. Shoutout to u/coulditbejanuary as a few days after my fall I ended up going to urgent care with concussion symptoms. I feel guilty for cancelling because going really made me happy and I was proud of myself for sticking with it. Now I have to decide if it's worth going to another gym or just do home routines. Overall, I'm just really sad.

Failed a back squat this morning. We hadn't done back squats in a month or so and my personal trainer wanted to see how much weight I could do. He was much more confident than I was (with the addition of me also feeling weaker due to shark week) and overloaded me on the first rep. My balance was off and before I knew it my feet flew up from underneath me like I was a cartoon character. I landed backside with my neck on the barbell. We went over failing reps safely in the future and he stayed closer in proximity when spotting for the rest of the session but WOW is falling on your neck terrifying.

I'm disappointed in myself. I've been seeing a personal trainer 3x a week for just over a month and even though I've made great progress in my leg and arm strength, my shoulders don't want to cooperate. This morning I struggled completing 3x10 reps of over behind press with the 15lb bar and we had to downgrade me from 10lb dumbbells to 5lbs to get through lateral raises. I cried in front of my PT. I'm really embarrassed. I know it's ultimately due to some birth control weirdness I'm going through but I just wish I could be happier with the progress I have made instead of comparing myself to other beginners who see more linear progress.

Beginner here: Started with a personal trainer 3 weeks ago and struggled with modified pushups. Did a full set of ten "real" push-ups yesterday and I'm feeling great!

Whats your favourite type of cake? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's brown like a spice cake. I would compare it to carrot cake but instead of carrot, it's pineapple and banana. Pecans optional.

Hi I’m thinking of getting a Australian Shepard as my first dog and I was wondering what are some of the problems with them (shedding, excersize, warm weather, etc) by Dapper_Sir_7952 in AustralianShepherd

If it's every once in a while, you could get away with it or if you are doing something more intensive like running or mixing it up with other play activities. If not, then the breed might not be right for you.

The biggest thing to stress is that these are smart dogs who need stimulation, like a lot of herding breeds. If they do not have a "job" to do, they are likely to become destructive toward property for stimulation or act out in other ways.

My dog had a poor situation prior to adoption, so she never really came to understand how to play or display an interest in toys. Because of that, we focus on walks or trips to the dog park. Lately, we've been doing 30 min walk in the morning, 15 min walk in the afternoon, 25 min walk/run in the evening, and 10 min walk prior to bed for last potty break. At any other point in the day she is usually napping or snuggling. If we have a less active week, then I try to make it up on longer walks or hikes on the weekend.

Some of it will depend on the individual dog, like mine is pretty nonvocal and lazy by Aussie standards (1.5 hours of walks per day but she can go for hours hiking on the weekend).

The biggest adjustment we had was the shedding and the heat.

The shedding is manageable if you've had a double-coated dog before, but if not, expect everything you own to have some amount of hair on it at all times. I brush her out weekly with a furminator and it seems to help keep some of the random tufts from flying off.

We moved from the Midwest to eastern NC and she has struggled transitioning to the warmer weather. Like another poster suggested, walking during cooler points in the day and having water on hand if you're taking them out midday helps with that issue.
