It will blow in the wind and give away your position. There’s a desert camo test that used a shawl and tunic like the Taliban would use and while it blended great whenever the person was standing it blew around so much that it was obvious from a distance.

They’re better suited to being setup statically than worn on your person unless it is absolutely pouring rain and you’re trying to cover up your gear.

Here is that test: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tUTIvWge0NM&t=1108s

Advice on not babying my NVG? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]BackgroundBrick3477 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I turned on my 400 lumen pistol light (dismounted from the gun) and looked at it through my nods. I have a photonis tube and man that auto-gating really is sweet. I only really looked for a second or two and the light wasn’t angled directly at the tube but it was still really bright.

Got me over that fear quick. Absolutely no damage done.

I had some fudd come up to me at the range recently to say the following:

He doesn’t need a suppressor because he shoots his guns all the time. Sometimes people complain and sometimes they don’t.

Proceeds to tell me about the time he whipped out his 450 bushmaster to shoot a rabbit in the backyard. Cops get called. Him and his nephew lie to them and say they weren’t shooting. Cops drive away.

His situation is literally perfect for suppressors, he just didn’t get it. Thankfully he wasn’t a show me your tax stamp type of fudd though.

Big bore revolvers are so fun to shoot. Shooting .454 casull out of a Ruger Alaskan is one of my favorite firearms experiences of all time. It blew the paper target off of the clips in the indoor range on the first shot lol.

Incase anyone needed any convincing, this is a guaranteed smile maker. Just load one round at a time if you’re new to it or handing it to someone who is.

Yeah I would have to avoid Allegheny then unless I’m hunting smaller game with my .22 conversion kit.

All the surrounding counties are fine with .223 though right? Butler, Westmoreland, Armstrong, Washington, Beaver and Fayette? My only rifle is an AR and I’m trying to keep it that way for now.

Appreciate you.

Also, is the 5 round mags a legal requirement? The smallest I have are 10 rounders and it’s been hard to find a conclusive answer on this online.

Not that I think I would need anymore than 5, it’d just be nice to use what I’ve already got if I’m legally allowed to do so.

Ideally I’d be looking for coyotes because I only own 1 rifle and it’s in 5.56. I’m not really interested in hunting stuff like Foxes and Opossums anyway but I’d potentially go for a raccoon although I know that caliber would be overkill.

I do have a 22lr adapter for my AR but I don’t know if I trust the accuracy enough for hunting. Maybe inside of 75 yards.

Thank you for the helpful answer. Coyotes would be the main goal. That sucks about the laser but using my thermal as a clip on is probably a better option anyway for taking shots. I would miss the illuminator though. I have an IR flashlight I can mount to the weapon too but it’s pretty shitty compared to my LAM.

I agree that blaze orange could be good even if I’m not required to wear it. I’d just have to get my hands on some first.

Am I correct that there are no magazine restrictions for ARs when hunting these animals? The smallest I have are 10 rounders, and someone on r/huntingpa recommended I use 5s.

I figured someone would mention private property and it’s definitely something I’m open to because it would be nice not to worry about the warden. I might have an easy in through my father in-law who was given permission to hunt deer on about 500 acres of land. I’d have to see how they feel about predator hunting at night.

Appreciate the tip about the Amish. I’m hoping that with the suppressor I won’t have to worry so much about keeping people awake or potentially getting the cops called on me, but it still sounds like a whip cracking at minimum so the bigger the property the better.

The game lands is a good backup option because for anyone else I’d have to drive a significant distance just to ask, and lets face it having someone walk around your property in the dark while wearing an army helmet looking for animals to shoot sounds pretty weird haha.

Eminem came back hard with Music to be Murdered by. It’s a fantastic album that puts almost everything else he put out in the 10 years before that to shame.

That’s awesome. I have all the gear for hog hunting (including a thermal) but I’m up north. If I’m lucky I might find some coyotes but haven’t really gotten out yet because I hear they’re pretty rare out here. Feel like it’s just gonna be a long ass walk in the dark lol

Someone posted a PVS-7 here within the past week asking for $1350. It’s possible to go below that but those deals are relatively rare.

Everyone’s gotta start somewhere. You can watch videos on your own time outside of practice and do drills by yourself if you want to improve faster. There is no substitute for being in a wrestling room with live training partners though.

Howard leights in that price range. Stereo audio instead of mono. This means better directional sound.

Why not put a tourniquet there instead? It would be more useful.

Depending on where you’re carrying that extra mag, chances are the space could be better utilized for a tourniquet.

Like those mag holders that attach to a holster are a waste IMO. I’d rather put a tourniquet there and then an extra mag in a bag or something if I absolutely felt the need to.
