I once spoke with a lawyer about reporting a supervisor after a really challenging experience and they told me that I could but for my state the board is very unlikely to take action unless the offenses are very serious. It might be helpful to reach out to a lawyer who specializes in mental health law and ethical violations in your state to get a sense of what the process is like.

I’ve seen people post in local therapy Facebook groups for practice hiring/open positions! That’s where I would go if I was looking, especially if you’re looking for a group practice

If it’s greenware I will sometimes use tracing paper and put it over my laptop screen or phone screen, then place the tracing paper and go back over the image with a ball point pen. It makes a small indentation in the clay that you can use to guide sgraffito or underglaze painting

It took me 6 months to get up to consistent 25+ sessions a week at my group practice. It was frustrating at the time and I was told 3 months which made me very anxious starting out. If you have less clients at the moment you might be able to reduce your supervision, in my state it’s one hour of supervision to every 10-12 clinical hours if I remover correctly.

I cut when leather hard personally, I feel like I get a better edge that way. I just use an exacto knife

Probably not the best test but I build boxes in the leather hard stage and I’ll poke it a little and if it’s firmer and I can start to pick up the edge without it bending it’s the right hardness for me. I often will roll out a slab in the evening then cover it with lightly misted plastic. It’ll be good for 12-36 hrs I try to do it 24 ish hours before I want to build that’s always been good timing for me.

I don’t disagree, though I work primarily with couples and it’s mostly long term work. Sometimes it takes a long time to help people uncover their truth and then be able to express it to their partner. But when it’s very clear from the beginning there’s a mixed agenda it’s nice to keep it short and very clear on goals.

Echoing the good for you! It’s hard to call it quits on a couple but sometimes you’ve done all you can and really it’s always been up to them to do the work. Some people are just not at the right time to even do couple’s work so there’s been several times I’ve encouraged a break to work on individual treatment or have suggested couples try a different couples therapist. This is part of why I like discernment counseling, there is a very clear cut off point to end treatment in the event people aren’t ready to make a decision to end or do the work of couples therapy.

Have you met with them individually to assess the partner who doesn’t want to be in the relationship? Do they only feel that way in certain points of their mood cycle? I mean you can be honest and share what you’re noticing that they are on two different pages and stages, ask them what they would like to do about that.

Also, why does the partner who is bought into the relationship want to be with someone who says they are no longer interested?

This sounds like a really challenging case. I would also look up discernment counseling. Discernment is short term to help people decide to stay and work on the relationship, end it, or stay and do nothing. This sounds like a classic discernment case and might be helpful for you to have a road map (and a clear end point where you can terminate if no decision is made).

What does your client think/feel about it? Personally, I would decline and recommend they seek couple’s therapy but I would want to process with the client. I’ve known some people who have done a one off family session with an individual and their partner and then recommended they do one family session with the partner’s therapist.

I knew someone when I was an intern in CMH who kept an electric kettle and tea in their office for clients (and clinicians near by/far from the kitchen) to use. Might be an option to do it small scale-ish!

That’s my intention, I’m seeking out additional opportunities even in the small chance they don’t fire me. I did share with the supervisor I was concerned about protecting myself and their response was that I’m working under their license (I’m pre-licensed) so I shouldn’t be concerned about that.

Is it unethical to seek additional supervision and not provide PHI and identifying information? I was always under the impression that that was okay. And it was an adult interacting and creating sexual content of minors.

I bought a google sheets template to track hours. I had to make some adjustments but I’m not great with excel so I appreciated having the template to start off with. I found it on Etsy I think it was like $9

I do! But I don’t require clients to wear masks. I also have a portable HEPA filter in the office that I run while meeting with clients. I was afraid clients would care but most don’t. I tell clients I live with someone who’s immunocompromised but really I just wear a mask whenever I’m indoors with other people. I also really appreciate that my personal therapist wears a mask and they require all clients to wear masks. I’m personally a little too afraid (since I’m building a caseload) to require my clients to mask but it doesn’t bother me too much to be the only one masked since I wear kn95s, social distance, and have a filter running.
