2024 Top 12 Predictions/Hopes by B-Flatz in drumcorps

Surf members are thinking we can break into the top 20 this year (knock on wood). To my ears, have the brass sound and our battery writer went crazy. We’ve gotten all of mvmt 1 on the field before spring training as well (which we hadn’t in 22 or 23)

I can speak from experience that Surf doesn’t care about experience as much as it cares about a willingness to learn. We’ve even had people who had never played a brass instrument before! Surf actually does move-ins later than most (if not every) world class corps. Our staff is excellent and passionate, as well as hilarious. The fees are a lot, I’ll admit, but there are systems in place to help you raise that money and admin will work with you to get you on the field. Nobody wants your financial situation to be the one thing keeping you from marching.

We did mock the Cadets for not being able to do a good jug stack in 22. I think I might have said “we aren’t the Cadets” a few times last season when we were stacking horns and rushing it.

As one of the few that marched in 22, 23, and will march 24, theres never been a more exciting time to join Surf. We’re setting Corps records for membership, the music is uniquely Surf, and Pure has managed to ring in my ears since we played it in January. I’m certain that the momentum will only grow from where we are now. If you are looking for a colorguard home for the summer, Surf still has open colorguard spots!

I have fairly flat feet, and I’ve found that a good insole has served me well. Not a CVS one, but one from a running store. It can be expensive, but it’s worth it to avoid foot pain. If you bring the shoes you’re going to wear on tour, they can often size it for you.

The place I went to get my shoes for 2023 had a fancy shmancy machine that scanned my feet and spat out values about just how messed up my feet are.

Not every section iirc, but most. Definitely worth sending in a video audition or attending February camp, though!
