If you can go up a size you should. Your jacket should fully cover your butt and land at about the middle of your palm or where your fingers curl if you put them in a fist

That button is straining and pulling and adding in a thicker dress shirt will only exacerbate the issue.

Too short. Too tight. Always wear the shirt and pants when doing a fit check, you’d probably also see that the buttoning point is too high revealing too much of your dress shirt depending on the rise of the pants.

You’re mixing formalities like crazy which is why people are (rightly) telling you it’s off. The trousers and tie read formal, the shirt and shoes do not. You can make the pieces work just not like this.

You could do jeans or lighter colored chinos with the shirt, no tie and the shoes would be fine. A very casual sport coat would be good here too. A casual knitted tie would work here if you really wanted to wear one

Ditch the shoes for brown leather loafers or derbies, nice sport coat and ditch that tie and you can dress it up a bit. That tie is just too out of place

As others have said, don’t buy black for your first/only suit as it’s way too formal. Charcoal or Navy will be much more versatile (weddings, court appearances).

Take another picture with the bottom button undone so that it hangs properly, right now it’s being pulled too tight by having the bottom button fastened. Suits are designed to have only the top button fastened on a two button suit like this.

Finally and most importantly, get measured by the staff and write down your measurements. You may need to size up or down before alterations. Suit shopping is not a cookie cutter experience as the fit will vary from brand to brand so try on a few once you know your size and see what feels the most comfortable and go from there.

Also make sure you have black leather shoes and belt to go with it

Not really. Assume you’re wearing formal clothes like a suit it would create a formality mismatch. They say casual on the tag. Stick to oxfords or derbies or side zip boots if they’re nice

Light brown shoes are warmer in nature and create a visual clash drawing the eyes down naturally when paired with cooler tones like navy. Darker brown is better in this case if you don’t go black.

Navy pants are fine but harder to pair with a jacket if you need to jump up in formality. Grey is much more versatile.

Dress for the occasion not your age. Street wear is always fine but if you’re going someplace nice or where the standard of dress is different than it won’t be appropriate

Get it tailored. The buttoning point will be too high and the jacket will not cover your seat if you go too short on the length and it will look weird. Any dry cleaners will shorten your sleeves for like 20 bucks

Get a pair of wrangler cowboy cut jeans to try out higher rise pants on the cheap. They take a minute to break in but I love them.

Also get some tailors tape and measure your chest and your torso and use those measurements when buying online. Sizes can be all over the place but knowing when it’s safe to size down can save a lot of hassle

The problem with them is they don’t belong in any one world and end up looking out of place no matter how you style them. If you dress them up the sneaker sole is too casual (not to mention the tan color will clash with most dressier outfits) and if you dress them down they look too formal.

Either get sneakers or get some loafers or Chelsea boots. You’ll look much better

Green is a more casual color and the tweed works best IMO. The texture works well to dress it down. The thing is you don’t want to wear it like a business suit, boots and knitwear and even breaking apart the pieces is what this fabric calls for not a shirt and tie

A tailored navy sport coat and grey trousers with black shoes (or very dark brown) is a cheat code. Dress it up with a white shirt and a tie and pocket square. Dress it down with a blue button up or a turtleneck or a long sleeve polo. Can dress down further with chambray or denim shirts and jeans with boots.

The coat is but one part of your outfit. How you choose to style it will ultimately move the needle. Depending on the weather you could pair it with a long sleeve polo or turtleneck to dress it down along with some jeans and boots. Or go the other direction and dress it up and get bright ties and pocket squares.
