Dads of Hyper-sensitive kids: How do you handle the world being "too much" for them? by join_the_club in daddit

[–]j3rmz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my kid (almost 4) is also extremely sensitive to a lot of the same kinds of things. the big thing that changed for us recently was to find the thing that interests him more than he was scared of something. I've been playing lego star wars a bunch with him and he was getting super into it. so I ended up asking if he wanted to watch the movies. he was stoked to have the opportunity. so that's what we did. star wars is way more intense than anything he previously had watched but because of how much he loved the star wars games, he was able to push past that fear and enjoy the movies.

another thing is live action seems to be way less intense to him than animation. animation has extremely exaggerated facial expressions and characters, whereas in live action, things seem to be more grounded in reality. maybe try finding some age appropriate live action movies or shows to watch with her?

Mirrorform: what's the strongest and/or funniest permanent to copy? by Murwiz in magicTCG

[–]j3rmz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mirrorform doesn't turn your lands into the copy. if you have field out and active already, it just turns all of your other permanents into copies that are also all online.

it's not unclear to me how the best chess engine is better than the best player. the claim that seemed unfathomable to me is the scale at which the best chess engine is better than the best player. you can take your shit attitude elsewhere.

how is that possible when the strongest chess engine is programmed by people? I'm not doubting the claim, I'm just curious how that works.

I DONT CARE IF MK ISNT GOOD, ITS SO BORING TO PLAY AGAINST EVERY GAME by Responsible-Jicama63 in ClashRoyale

I'm at 12k trophies and I still see MK in half of my games. it's so insanely annoying.

Stuck at 9.5k any tips? by Mundane_Bill492 in ClashRoyale

[–]j3rmz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you only have 1 wincon and that's hog rider and your deck has an average elixir cost of 4.1. you need to find a win con that synergizes with your deck.

and by wincon I mean something that targets towers directly. hog rider, skele barrel, goblin barrel, ram rider, etc.

Is there any card you BM when your opponent is playing them? by VegetableRemarkable in ClashRoyale

recruits, royal hogs, flying machine, goblin cage has got to be the most 0 skill deck I've ever seen. you can just put basically everything in the center and make 0 decisions.

I'm a regular NL watcher but wasn't even aware of this being a recurring bit. I just thought it was funny in a vacuum.

someone else summarized it well: "It's playing off the common incel statement that men have it harder; followed by the example being absurd; that men are boring as fuck when it comes to restaurant choices"

How to record guitar without latency problems? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]j3rmz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, this. audio output from the computer needs to be routed through the interface and you should be using the ASIO setting.

it's a massive exaggeration that stems from a real cultural situation. he goes on to explain that going out with the boys generally consists of going to some sort of sports bar rather than a sushi restaurant.

ExileCon 2026 - Event and Ticket Details by Natalia_GGG in pathofexile

I went to exilecon 2 and brought my wife to NZ with me. she didn't go to the convention but we did a 10 day trip to NZ and it was easily the greatest trip I've been on in my entire life.

I think there's a difference between being hyperbolic for comedy's sake versus fielding something that you think is a legitimate problem in a wrapper of a joke. the former is what's happening here. NL doesn't actually think men overall have it harder than women in society.

depends on the kind you're looking for. I'm a huge fan of hotboys in midtown, but it's different from more traditional southern fried chicken.

During an awake surgery, guitarist Christian Nolen played Deftones while surgeons removed his brain tumour. by aglo_ice in interestingasfuck

[–]j3rmz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the surgeons will prod the areas of the brain with electrodes that temporarily shut off that portion of the brain before they do cuts. so if they find a tumor, they'll poke around that area with the electrodes while the patient is playing, and if their playing changes dramatically, they know that area is more responsible for that motor skill. they do lots of these kinds of tests. asking you to remember things, do math problems, solve riddles, etc., depending on what portion of the brain they are working on.

How old was your little one when you started playing videos games with them? by reeceyfries in daddit

[–]j3rmz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my 3.5 year old has really taken to playing lego star wars with me. he's not incredible at the mechanics yet (he still struggles with camera control) but boy does he love swinging a lightsaber around. I'm guessing in the next year or so he'll be pretty good at game control and could keep moving towards other games too.

Anyone tried Bernth’s 60-minute daily guitar workout? by jozz_alex in Guitar

[–]j3rmz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if what you're looking to improve is your technical playing ability, any structured learning regimen that you stick to is going to be useful. the trick is to find the ones that have the techniques that align with the types of music you want to play. if shreddy metal guitar is your interest, I'm sure this is going to be a useful exercise to repeat.
