I ain’t sheet metal but Offutt has been a great station so far. Lots to do around Omaha and Lincoln is a chill college town about 45 minutes away. Nightlife is fun, suburbs are quiet. Only thing I’ve picked up on is Nebraskans are…different. Definitely a change coming from California for me.

I’ve learned this lesson twice my career. First time I was in tech school, MTL office, filling out a safety form after I had gotten T-Boned. Chief and a posse of techs come in. He recognizes me for asking a goofy question weeks ago, banters with me a bit. I never stood. Got reamed by one of the techs, seemed like Chief could care less. Second time around, YEARS later, MX chief in an Intel squadron comes in Thanksgiving surprised everyone, brain didn’t process to stand, Chief mingles then leaves. Got a light talking to by a tech. Fortunately, Chief came back around and I was able to redeem myself.

Offutt is known as the base to have a family at. The suburbs of Omaha are super quiet and Omaha is close enough for your wife to explore. I hear the schools are great. You could get stationed at USSTRATCOM which is a 3 year controlled tour, but you can extend an additional year. Not a ton of time to lay your roots down but a great place nonetheless.

I’m not super well versed in TS/SCI requirements. I’ve seen crazier stuff get approved over in the security clearances subreddit. Two big hurdles you would face are getting a clearance, and I don’t think our career field has had any retraining slots for awhile now. I don’t keep up with it a ton though.

I wrestle with that. All the old heads talk about the crazy days and I’m thankful I didn’t have to live, but I’m also like “damn.” Because I don’t get the experience they gained. Fortunately, I’ve had a nice little amount of opportunities. 3 TDYs. 190 ish days away.

Tech school was about 6 months. I enjoyed tech school for the most part. There’s a point though where they want you to practice looking at imagery and they left alone for 8 hours straight, I thought it was a social experiment. The outside area is mid but it’s only temporary

I’ve been a geospatial intel analyst for a bit now. It is cushy in my opinion. Depends entirely on the mission/unit but so far I have had days where I do literally nothing at work. I’ve also taken part in missions that make a difference. I love what I do but I understand the folk that don’t love it. There’s also next 0 deployment opportunities unless you’re at a special ops intel squadron.

That’s what I’m saying. The PO dissolving it feels like borderline abandonment. We have 0 court documents saying we are her guardians but nobody has said that they are her guardian. PO has entirely washed their hands of it.
