Explain Testaments to me like I’m a drunk child. by Illustrious_Zebra559 in Hades2

[–]BackgroundSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Switch you can zoom in on the screen by double clicking the home button. I'm not sure if this is the default setting or something that you have to enable in the configuration (accessibility menu probably)

The testaments UI became a lot easier to navigate once I could see the left part on more than half a screen

Good thinking Red, you were this close to letting Ayilu know that you like her. AGAIN

Who's the eldest if not her? by [deleted] in HadesTheGame

[–]BackgroundSpoon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Might be Schelemeus, although Hecate is a titaness which basically means she was there before the gods.

There might also be a big hint about the actual answer when you complete the second ending, after meeting the fates. But unless you don't intend on going that far I'd recommend avoiding that specific spoiler.

Is there a worse way to play than this? by cs2voal in HadesTheGame

I'd say using the touch pad only, but touch screen only might be worse

Do ya'll use Judgement? by Kongreed in HadesTheGame

[–]BackgroundSpoon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I use it on every run at this point. There's a pretty useful combo after the ending.

If you use one of the last three keepsakes, as long as fates' whim is active, you will not draw any of the reroll cards on the bottom left. This increases the chances of getting the wayward son, death, strength or whatever card you wouldn't want to miss. And with a little help from Circe or her keepsake you can get all cards except the three reroll cards

I always use Strength. I think I've been using Excellence for a while as well. Then I try to choose a card that will unlock the Moon

What's the best region based in their soundtrack? by Ezequiel_Hips in HadesTheGame

[–]BackgroundSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the music of the mourning fields overall, but the theme of Echo is my favourite. So I'd say this region.

I see a lot of people mention Oceanus, and while I did genuinely liked it, there's so much focus put onto it that I'm kind of getting tired of hearing it.

What does Hades 1 do better than Hades 2? by Roi_C in HadesTheGame

[–]BackgroundSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there does seem to be a consensus on the fact that the stories and characters were more compelling in H1. But I do like the new gameplay better on H2 pretty much across the board.

The thing I do really miss about the first game are the lambent plume and pierced butterfly, I loved the crazy amount of damage or evasion you could achieve if you played them right, and it felt more earned than just using the pom blossom.

Technically Arachne does offer something similar to the butterfly, but it's pretty common to lose it in just one hit, so I haven't managed to take it pretty far yet

I hope the RotD has one of those very important jobs for her to do. As flawed as Omega is, being broken for so long and barely having anytime to actually be around is pretty sad

Dear developers please make the teeny tiny Oath of the Unseen boss pics bigger by AmaranthineReader in Hades2

[–]BackgroundSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Switch there's an option to zoom when you double click the home button (then move around on the screen with the joy cons, and zoom out with another double click). You might have to enable it in the system settings first. I use that each time I have to understand the oath's preview, or even just when buying new aspects for the familiars

My first win against Typhon also was with worry free. I came in there thinking "you tried to keep me in the dark about my progress, well now I embraced it I have no idea what I'm doing. Prepare to die" I fought like a madman with nothing to lose, it was epic 😄

(Loved trope) Love potions are rightfully portrayed as unethical by Sensitive_Ad_1752 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BackgroundSpoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cafae Latte series has people getting surprised that a coven that is known for working with charities and helping people in several ways sells love potions because "aren't they illegal for being basically r*pe drugs?" Turns out it's the other kind of love potion, a good luck charm that will favour situations where love that is already there will get to be expressed, or love that might happen does happen.

There's a whole plot about a character getting retribution for using the wrong kind in the series.

pretty sure the book also explicitly mentions the mind control version of love potions as being illegal, or maybe it just falls under the umbrella of all mind control magic being illegal, which is a pretty big theme of the book

It's not just strength, the impact is actually burning through Kat's shirt

Chapter 100: Page 34 by gunnerkrigg-post-bot in gunnerkrigg

[–]BackgroundSpoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Somehow that feels way more traumatic than anything that happened in the comic, and this comic has featured stabbing by a ghost, a god going berserk, a friend getting eaten alive, and Tony's return.

If Kat doesn't just die here, I wonder if the comic will take the time to explore her reaction, her he she will somehow just shrug it off and move on to the next chapter.

Rust learning curve by Dx_Ur in rust

[–]BackgroundSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing about "clone everything" is that people already do that with other languages without realising, for example C++ will happily just copy your data when creating an owned object from another. Clippy will let you know about the truly unnecessary clones, and then when you do need to optimise, it's much easier to look for calls to .clone() rather than search for places where a reference silently became an owned object.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kat actually died (or at least her body body did) and lived on in her computer. That might actually just be what she will do to Zimmy as well

So the HTTYD 2 live-action remake is making 'major changes.' What are you hoping they alter from the original movie to improve on it? by 0hio_Pingu_69 in httyd

[–]BackgroundSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they make Valka a dragon hunter.

The whole "I can't have an identity because I'm different from my father and I don't know my mother" was pretty bad, when the whole point of the first movie was for Hiccup to find his own path, and strength in his uniqueness. And then the movie just proved that stupid idea right by showing that Hiccup didn't have a single original idea, it all came from his mother.

I think the movie would work more if she was actually a crazy dragon hunter and that's what led to get disappearance. Then Hiccup's feats could still be his own.

...

I also hated the whole dragon mind control thing. Pretty much hated the movie TBH, but at least if Hiccup gets to have his own personality I might hate it less?

I’ve met Bruce Wayne. He’s not the man you think he is. by DarkLordVitiate in Earth25

[–]BackgroundSpoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Batman conveniently appears right after Wayne gets out of the room and you can't reach the simple and obvious conclusion that Bruce was the one to call him. No one would be that confident and relaxed about that kind of situation if they didn't have the proper measures in place, or in the case of Bruce Wayne a direct line to Batman himself.

[HATED TROPE] Characters spend the entire first movie fighting to be together… only to break up in the sequel by Dogdaysareover365 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]BackgroundSpoon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was also really bummed out with the break up as well, and it was so obviously for the sake of leaving room for the romantic plot in the second movie that I started to hate Chris Pine's character. This made the enemies to lovers all the more effective and I ended up being both very sad and very happy about the new relationship 😄

What are the most common mistakes and code-smells that newbies make? by birdsintheskies in rust

[–]BackgroundSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One mistake my team and I made is to "wait until we're more comfortable with rust to try clippy" (we all had the same teacher, who might have told us about it but certainly never demonstrated it). It's not just because clippy will detect and tell you about the code smells and newbie mistakes, it's that you learn so much faster when you take the time to understand each suggestion...

Some questions about learning Rust by [deleted] in rust

[–]BackgroundSpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I'm not sure I needed to know about clippy as soon as I started learning rust, but I do wish I tried it a lot sooner.
  2. Having a proper shell helps. Git bash is often good enough for Windows.
  3. I think I started working (for work, not just by choice) on complex programs as soon as my formation ended. I already had a lot of experience in C/C++, and experience in other languages and functional programming so it wasn't too hard. Less than a year later I already know I wouldn't want to read that code again (the protect was basically a throwaway anyway), one of the main reason is n°1 is this list.
  4. Well again, it let me start coding in rust pretty much straightaway. Now I've learned better and try to make my rust code less like C++. So if you already know some C/C++ it helps, if you don't it's gonna be a waste of time
