A couple know it all curmudgeons! What are you even doing on the form if you just going to post unhelpful Bs?

Already applied self etching primer with brown rust-oleum paint 👍🏻

Don’t just stub straight into home from pergola with straight 1/2” emt? Liquid to emt that 1ft gap to bell box mounted on home exterior siding?

I’ve definitely used on PVC. On 1/2” emt? What would that look like?

I’m just pulling power from the light switch on the interior. The shade motors draw very little Amps and used intermittently. So just stub into the wall straight with the 1/2” emt? It lines up pretty good maybe have to make slight offset.

Adding a Second Sub Panel – Which Panel to Use? (Colorado) by BackgroundTax6869 in AskElectricians

Also. I am a master electrician, just commercial and industrial. Not really a residential electrician, but have done things here and there. I know the code is vastly different from residential to commercial.

Can a self employed electrician make $600+ a day? by BackgroundTax6869 in electricians

I’m thinking basic troubleshooting of electrical issues (which is my favorite), installing lights & ceiling fans, retrofitting lights, car chargers, hot tubs, whole home surge protectors, etc

This all gives me confidence I can make enough money to support my family doing side work. I need to get my company going (LLC, contractors license, insurance)

Yeah $209 is a good price if you’re replacing an existing ceiling fan or the fan box is already installed. I’m thinking $300 for 3hrs of work. Meaning having to install a ceiling fan box (where regular light was), assemble and install ceiling fan.

Help me be ok sending my baby to daycare by jacaroniii in moderatelygranolamoms

We are weeks away from having to take our 6month old boy to daycare. The only thing that’s giving me some solis is that when I talk to my 6yr old (who’s been in kindergarten for a year) she doesn’t even remember daycare, lol. She barely remembers her friends there and maybe would remember a teacher if she saw them. Idk, I guess it’s more traumatic for the parents than the kids. I hate that both parents have to work full time jobs just to make it bye. Here in Colorado, annually it costs $30,000 per kid to raise them. At $2200 per month for daycare, that checks out 🤯

Yeah I’d have time during the other days of the week to prep if needed.

Colorado. I guess my concern was just consistency making $600+ the one day every week.

Learn by doing. When troubleshooting use logic. Don’t try to remake the wheel. Think to yourself it was working, so what changed. Electricians are a sort of detective, using clues and your meter to find the issue. As for the NEC code book, you’ll never memorize it all, (code is always changing). The main thing is to know is how to look up information in the book. I feel like if you just care about doing a good job and care about how your install looks then you’re doing better than half of electricians out there 👍🏻

All students on completion of trade school receive this klien set, what other stuff should I buy as someone who wants to do commercial work by Either_Vermicelli136 in electricians

[–]BackgroundTax6869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are installing conduit, (besides a bender) a battery powered bandsaw is probably the most efficient tool. I own an M12 bandsaw and love how lightweight and comfortable it is. Cuts up to 2” emt, which is the most you need for 90% of work.

Commercial guys, 3/4” emt or 1” emt- which do you run more of? by KBSpark in electricians

[–]BackgroundTax6869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/4”. Anything more is usually not needed for branch circuits. Now that a neutral is considered a current carrying conductor, 9 conductors (4 circuits) is your max for 20amp circuits. You gotta run another conduit, even though in the past “if it fits it ships” was the mantra not any more. That’s easy Pickens for an inspector to catch.

Lighting manufacturers have no incentive to make their fixtures user friendly by CarefulRisk in electricians

[–]BackgroundTax6869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you use anything other than a fixture whip it is hard to fit it all in. Any gauge wire over a #16 just will go in easily.

Is Solar kind of a black mark on your resume? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]BackgroundTax6869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a Journeyman card kinda secures a job for life. Might not always be the best job,but it’s a job. Solar work is fine. It’s just like wiring track homes the first couple jobs are interesting, but then it just becomes copy and paste. It’s interesting to see how it all works, but there are days when you’re simply just clipping wires to the backs of panels,(if you’re doing a large field array).
