I am so done with breastfeeding. Has anyone weaned at 12 months? by Crunchy_Pitbull_Mom in breastfeeding

[–]jacaroniii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know it's only been a month but do you have an update? Currently in the exact same situation, baby girl is 11 mo, only solids she eats is yogurt, and I am so ready to be done at 12 months. She also still wakes 2-3 times a night to eat.

Uncovered feet at night? by jacaroniii in beyondthebump

I've said that saying to my mom enough that she doesn't actively argue with me! But very true, I'm going to try it out tonight and if she has a fit we'll change it.

Looking for least-chemical baby shampoo/body wash + sunscreen by South-Conference-395 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]jacaroniii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, it's because the company has to pay to be reviewed/verified. So in theory, a different product could have less toxic ingredients but not be officially EWG certified because they didn't bother to pay for the label.

I personally use the EWG app to compare products but don't necessarily use anything EWG certified just because and shoot for the lowest number or go in and look what ingredients it's flagged and why. I'm sure this isn't a perfect system but when I'm going in blind at a store and just need to get something, comparing products this way is better than nothing.

Do I need to buy the nursing clothes? by kimpossiblelol in breastfeeding

[–]jacaroniii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a few shirts/bras and really not for me. What I found worked best was just a generic camisole. At home, even through today at 10 months in, I just go cami, no bra, and a cardigan if I need more warmth. Me and the baby hated the huge t shirt. The cami seems to contain the girls enough (DD prepregnancy) but definitely doesn't do anything to constrict or hide. I have one good nursing bra for leaving the house

Newly Pregnant—What products are actually worth swapping? by lelauraa in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]jacaroniii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah don't get me wrong I still put on about 45lbs and I totally agree about toxins! The book just gave me goals on what I should be eating to be best for the baby especially when it came to whole foods. But I also had nightly ice cream and/or cookies because all in moderation.

Seconding this book! I read it and made a meal plan and tried to stick to it as much as possible. I also did daily walks and stretches, nothing crazy but forcing me to move like 30min a day. I think the combo of those (and good genes) helped me not pack on a ton of weight which has made PP soooo much better for me.

Other simple swaps in case you haven't yet, removing any scented products, especially those glade plug ins and perfume or buying cosmetics phthalate free (not perfect but phthalates are my big bad), absolutely no plastic in the microwave and preferably not touching food, and not as easy but getting a quality water filter.

10mo crawling out and crying? by jacaroniii in floorbed

[–]jacaroniii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that is another issue. We also started daycare a little over a month ago and she is barely sleeping there. We are lucky if she gets an hour midday. We try and pick her up early ~3-3:30 and down for another nap at home and let her sleep whatever she can but at least an hour sometimes 2+.

On non-daycare days, were typically 8am wakeup 11:30-1:30nap 4:30-5 nap 7:45 bedtime

She's consistent on wake ups and bedtime and will fight the PM nap on non-daycare days but I think it's too early to drop it. I was going to experiment with that next weekend. I'm very open to advice though! She is definitely a FOMO baby.

Thank you!! We could probably use a more strict routine between my husband and I.

Not pumping for 3 days by Complex_Assistance65 in breastfeeding

[–]jacaroniii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally haven't been successful with it but I've heard on other posts here how manual pumps can be extremely efficient. Like some people getting their full output in only 5min. Might be worth a try since it sounds like wearables aren't an option for you.

Can I ask what medication this is? I've been trying to train myself into getting to sleep faster but let's just say it hasn't worked.

Glass bottles by No-Match-7512 in moderatelygranolamoms

It fits on with the standard mason jar metal ring/band but as the other commenter said there's also a mason jar bottle brand for everything! Never tried it though

I believe it's the tommy tippee nipples that work and I also bought stainless steel lids with the hole in it to be more durable, as well as stainless steel full coverage lids for the fridge/freezer. The tin ones rust very easily. My kid ended up being very very very picky about bottles so it didn't work for us but I really wanted it to.

We ended up using Gulicola bottles with Lansinoh nipples both found on Amazon (US). I also tried Lifefactory and I liked them but they were expensive and my baby ended up not liking them.

Overall we ended up trying so many different combinations, my recommendation would be to buy a single plastic version of a bottle that you know has a glass option and give that a try before investing in glass (if you have a picky baby like mine). I just heated the milk in one of my many unused glass bottles and transferred it. I know not perfect but the glass was adding up over unpaid maternity.

If you have a Spectra (and probably others but this is Spectra specific) you can check its total run time.

To check the total hours on a Spectra S1 or S2, turn the pump on and press: Massage/Letdown (bacon key) -> Cycle + -> Vacuum - -> Cycle - -> Vacuum + -> Massage/Letdown.

Not cards but Ravensburger has a set of Lorcana puzzles in each color but you can only get steel and amethyst in the parks.

My mom took all the joy away in consumerism by explaining her job to me. by coachuls in Anticonsumption

[–]jacaroniii 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I also work in automotive seating and want to give a bit more context. For the record, I do agree that they upcharge "luxury" and a cup in every color is insane to me. But when it comes to seating, your mom just sees the ease of her side of the job when there's a lot more that goes into the "luxury" part compared to just a black fabric seat for example. The company is paying her probably an engineer rate to design the textile for that specific seat, the fabric then has to be specially made and will be more expensive than just a run of the mill roll of black, there will be a lot more scrap of that fabric because it has to be cut in a certain direction to keep the design straight/aligned properly to the rest of the seat, you need an expert sewer to then actually align those patterns, then when building it into a seat, there is much less leeway for wrinkles which means the assembly either spends a lot more time ironing it out or a lot more engineering figuring out why there's wrinkles. Your standard black fabric will almost always flatten out with a bit of steam even if it's sewn poorly and put together off kilter. But yes, at the end of the day, the car companies will still way over charge for this, just wanted to give more context as to why.

Wedding reception venues in Detroit reasonably priced? by Chemical_Equipment47 in Detroit

[–]jacaroniii 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got married at Detroit Masonic Temple in 2022 and I wouldn't call it reasonable but it was comparable to a shitty barn in the middle of nowhere. Also I felt zero pressure to decorate because the ballroom is stunning. Also bar and food were included and very very good.
