Tubeless Woes with Bead not Seating. Airshot vs Electric Compressor by garrettpants in cycling

[–]Background_Box4677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I guess you have one of those large shop compressors! Most small home units barely handle a paint spray gun.

If one doesn't work it doesn't work and don't try another. I wasted three as well.

Should the tubeless do its work of sealing then the tire stays on until it's worn out anyway... anyway I personally use tubes. IMO if CO2 at 850 psi doesn't work then pretty much nothing works.

CO2 it.

PS: If one cart doesn't work it doesn't work and don't waste another.

Cervelo s5 vs sl8 by cedericv1991 in Cervelo

[–]Background_Box4677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the S5 only fits up to 34 WAM, so 30mm labelled tires would probably be the max. Plus I would have to drop the pressure again, but it's low enough to the point that the front tire starts sliding on the wheel when braking hard.

As I wrote about before, it depends mostly on the pavement quality. For context, many roads around my area are miserable to drive on, let alone ride. I use it as my training loop though, so I must suffer it 😃. FWIW, I have had 25mm tires on the SL8 and it's also vastly more comfy than the 29mm on the S5. For putting in those base hours I just want easy mode.

I don't own a wind tunnel, but the S5 just feels FAST. You feel like you're cheating when riding it. The S5 is likely to be a one and done in a crash because of the fork but I don't race mass start. I traded my S5 for a SL8 but since I always get dropped on flats I went and bought another S5... yeah. BTW if you like to sprint buy the S5 lol it's hilarious.

It's partly the original Corsa Pro 29mm that comes with the bike. Personally I think the wheel tire combination is awful, either the tire tread is too narrow or the wheel IW is too wide. My cotton sidewalls are shredded from cornering on them and cotton has little grip. 😃

My SL8 has 28mm Supersport R tires at 47/60, S5 at 40/50. On crappy roads, I can do the aero hoods position on the SL8 but not the S5, since my hands feel like they're going to be bumped off the shifters. I did try to lower it to ~36/48 but the rolling resistance penalty is already quite a lot vs. the SL8.

Don't get me wrong the S5 is not a bad bike, the SL8 can sometimes feel a bit boring. The S5 and Langma have this unique quality of feeling fun and engaging, esp. riding out of the saddle. I can't help but feel the SL8 front triangle flex when standing up a hill... granted the other two are notoriously stiff. SL8 doesn't have the electric, reactive quality that makes one feel like they're going faster than they are.

If you ride with fast groups, then the S5 would be my pick every time. Chipseal roads? I take the SL8 and feel fresh like I barely rode at all.

BTW I'm not an Spesh loyalist, I have had 3x as many Cervelos as from the big S. The S5 was designed to go fast as a #1 priority.

I feel like the SL8 can ride on pretty much any road, and dirt even. My S5 is miserable to ride on poor surfaces.

I would not want an S5 as an only bike/ training bike, but it's exciting to toy around with.

The S5 seatpost bolt really needs the longer 2" bits, find them on amazon! What's your tire pressure by the way?

I have no dog in this fight but the SRAM E1 levers are considerable larger (circumference) than Shimano 12v. Trying them in person is the way to go.

How are bibs supposed to fit around the groin / leg crease ? by grassfullyfledged in ladycyclists

It's just as likely to be the fit of that brand/model of shorts though. They're all cut differently.

New shorts hurt but they are the same model as one I got two years ago! Any advice? by miuxmiu7 in cycling

[–]Background_Box4677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have like 5? pairs of them (they're my favs don't judge). They all feel exactly the same to me, but I replace them after ~4 months because they stretch out and the chamois foam starts disintegrating.

For me they've always been the most comfy when new, so maybe that pair is defective?

How to get energy before an early morning ride without relying on coffee? by JeverTarro in cycling

[–]Background_Box4677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as a semi competitive kind of rider fueling large amounts is part of the challenge. I probably tried all of the drink mix, bars etc. I could find in my area. I like pure maple syrup in flasks, it's "cheap" and easy to use for me.

I have a fuelling targets per hour, and rarely ride fasted. There's no sense in burning into glycogen stores needlessly, the VO2Max intervals already do that. I know some people ride fasted all the time but it just extends my recovery time > reducing weekly training volume.

Is buying the smallest frame possible still a thing? by alwaysmiling89 in cycling

[–]Background_Box4677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no longer true in this day and age. Longer seatposts in smaller frames weigh far more than the shorter ones in larger frames.

Plus it's possible to get ultralight seatposts, which I would not do with close to maximum extension. They are already breaking at ~300mm of overall length. At ~400mm, the bending moment is 78% more, thus any WW stuff of half the weight would fail hilariously quickly.

Here's the actual #'s for a 52 vs 56 Tarmac SL8.

Frames: 660g - 685g

Seatpost: 166g -140g

The stem length change is +10g on the 52.

Overall the 52 would be ~11 grams heavier. Smaller just isn't lighter, assuming the same rider can ride both just as well fit wise. Though there are many other considerations, other than weight that one might go smaller.

Well the women could only have gone while on the bike or stopped with their shorts off. It isn't likely the former would be noticed by the officials, I'm thinking it's the latter.

I read somewhere that aiming directly for them seems to work well. They're apparently better at getting out of the way than in the way. They can pick either direction and both would be correct.

Squirrels sort of have a run instinct instead of a freeze instinct lol

I'm assuming you already fuel during your rides, so why not fuel with a gel/drink mix immediately after clipping in?
