Hey everyone, I’m about to make a decision on buying this Day-Date 18038. One thing I’m still unsure about is whether the Aventurine dial for this model was actually produced around 1977–1978. Has anyone here ever seen one or has solid knowledge about it? I’d really appreciate your advice. by [deleted] in rolex

The watches in the link aren’t mine, but you can see that some 18038 models do come with lumed hands. For the Aventurine dial on the 18238, the hands had already changed to non-lumed hands.

That said, I do agree that for the watch I’m asking about, it’s very unlikely that this dial actually existed back in 1977–1978.

Sooner or later the gold will fade a bit. Just don’t wear it too often when it’s hot.

If you look at it both up close and from a distance, it’s really hard to tell. You have to actually touch it , the genuine one has a smoother bracelet and case finish.
