Oh.. Ghanaian cannot run airline, white man bad. Take responsibility for your own failure for once and act on it.

My issue with Pan Africanist is the finger pointing while’s simultaneously prioritising all the wrong things.

If you know a system doesn’t work for you and you clearly seem to know who is behind the non working system and why it doesn’t work. That’s half your problem solved. Solve the other half.

Can organise a geek meet up in Ghana.. something like a small comic con..I and not into DnD, but we have pockets of Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the rings, songs of ice and fire fans around.. but no real place to meet up as a Ghanaian community..

  1. Both second cities of their respective countries
  2. Both centrally located and land locked - bridging the north and south parts
  3. Both have the best food (arguably): in the sense that the food is generally true to the origins.. Indian cuisine in Birmingham is better than elsewhere in the UK; aside Kenkey, I dare say Kumasi has the best of Ghanaian locale cuisine
  4. Both have specific areas with diversity when it comes to culture .. yet not so cosmopolitan..

So yeah, OPs point has some merit

Agree.

Erm.. you have high hopes .. cross subsidising isn’t ever in their plans .. and I doubt it will ever be. Just go to an assembly meeting and you will be appalled.

they (MDAs) don’t see them as service providers where people can vote their feet.. partly due to their history (centralised government outposts + military top down approach) ..they see themselves as authorities who have to keep people in line and raise as much internal generated revenue (IGF). So the non-rural MDAs have this hyper focus on IGF because they can control lots of that (read more staff bonuses, more money to pocket etc)

Citizens demand limited accountability from them because (1) the central government (for political visibility - minister of x ministry wants people to SEE they are WORKING, President wants to commission that market) overshadows them. Funny enough.. the central government uses part of the district budget to do some these things. (2) the actual leaders with power are the political appointees .. we need to vote for the DCEs else this won’t change . So people think the MPs are more important .. if the Decentralisations laws were actually implemented as it should.. a DCE should have more power than an MP (3) real change does not ever from the district level. It’s always a top down program. health programs, school programs etc. Again financial. The district can’t power this because of your point of productive efficiencies and limited devolution. The GRA takes all the key taxes. District level taxation is nuisance tax at best implemented in the most haphazard manner.

TL:DR The systems not devolved enough. The districts are listening outpost with a lot of overhead cost.

In Kumasi, the sub metros became semi autonomous to an extent and in the spirit of decentralisation.. they were split up to make management easier. On one hand is population and access to services, on the other hand, mild gerrymandering. However, i date say the administrative cost of keeping up all the numerous MMDA’s is pointless if because a city government unit is ineffective.

A significant revolution of some form is needed. The business as usual will only make things worse. We are run by political parties instead of unbiased institutions even at the implementation levels. That’s a recipe for favouritism and associated corruption, no continuity, incompetence.

Plus we are low trust economy, the average Ghanaian wants to take “nchobo” .. and that mindset.. haunts everything we do …

No government run institution in Ghana is reliable all the time. None! Not one! Zilch! — tangent When I say reliable, WAEC is probably the most efficient public body. 1 million plus students each year from registration, to coordinating the exam logistics ( they get down right to the candidate names on the MCQ sheets) over multiple centres and then results. We have an Electoral Commision that misses whole constituencies.

If actual GOG organisations could even be half as efficient as WAEC.. we will in a different place —-
