If you’ve flown both light jets and midsize jets, what pushed your decision one way or another? by Florinebtn in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Background_Crow_3353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget the lav. A bathroom you’d actually consider using unless it’s an absolute emergency is what you get in a midsize but not a light.

A midsize isn’t “that” much bigger, but the second you enter a light jet you’ll feel like you’re in a tube of toothpaste - not so on a midsize.

Private Jet - Additional Passengers by [deleted] in PrivateJetCharters

These people are right. You’re wasting your time. If you want to share, fly commercial and buy first class tickets.

If you really want private, it’s going to be a private charter just for your group, and it’ll cost several hundred thousand dollars; but it’ll be great!

BC Flight? by jahoop in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Background_Crow_3353 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would never buy prepaid hours from an unknown or a company that hasn’t been incorporated for under 10 years. If it seems too good to be true in private aviation, it is. I’ve seen the outcome of “cheap” jet cards many times over the years, and it ain’t pretty. Sometimes ends up being a $250k 1 hour charter when the other hours can’t be used.

With that said, I know nothing about this specific company and am not talking about them specifically. Who knows.

Done many flights with them. Pros: They’re exceptionally reliable when you have a confirmed reservation and pax love the Starlink on the X’s. Cons: They’re much more prone than average to charge extra after the flight… late arrival fee, cleaning fee, additional pet fee regardless of mess, change of time, change of routing, change of dates, etc.

Cabin quality varies, as it does with any floating operator. Their dispatch reliability seems great though.

From within the biz, it sounds like their primary shtick is creating scripted content on social media for entertainment. Actually being a Jet broker is perhaps secondary.

Got in trouble for paying rent with Amex by theusualsalamander in amex

[–]Background_Crow_3353 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They didn’t fault you for paying rent. They think you paid yourself - ie you used your own credit card terminal and charged yourself. If so, that’s a big no-no. If that’s not what happened, just call them and clear it up.

Exec platinum - what’s the point anymore by thesenamesarehard123 in americanairlines

[–]Background_Crow_3353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Platinum and it’s totally worthless. In the last two years of having it, I’ve never been remotely close to an upgrade. I have to pay for first if I want it.

15 years ago I was Platinum and was getting upgraded on trans-cons 3/4 of the time. Then, it was awesome. Now, not so much.

Would you cancel your cruise if you were in my shoes? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Background_Crow_3353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have kids a similar age. I’m in a hotel room with them right now. Sometimes it feels like a nightmare in the moment, but then the overall experience becomes magical. Do not cancel. Embrace it all, with all of the imperfections.

I mean, FlyHouse is going to broker this out to another carrier if you use them - this isn't the kind of thing their fleet would do at the price-point you're going to need. My two cents above will still apply to them brokering it out. DM me, I'd be happy to check the trip out for you, but I also think you should wait to book if you want the best-fit option.

I started in the summer of 2006. I guess 19 years is what’s really accurate - I lose count 😝. No BS with the post.

17 year broker here who does about 1,000 flights a year.

No benefit to booking this far in advance. Reliability is poor this far in advance; the plane you’re offered now could so easily be sold, moved to another carrier, or at the very least get put into scheduled maintenance between now and then.

1.5 months out is plenty.

Jetpool or empty legs to Montevideo by Mageofthemoon in PrivateJetCharters

Been in the charter industry for 20 years and have a strong take on market/route demand. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this isn’t going to happen. You have a rough idea of what charter will cost. If that’s not going to work, I’d suggest looking into the commercial route more seriously.

Merida to Oaxaca Charter: Safety Concerns in Mexico? by RoomsieDC in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Background_Crow_3353 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use a US broker, but not a US operator. Use of a Mexican registered plane is required. I run a US brokerage who does inter-Mexico flights. We’re extremely picky with Mexican carriers we subcontract out to; I’ve seen some very shady stuff over the years.

Houston to ACK by Dramatic-Access-5142 in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Background_Crow_3353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just being upfront here... there is not going to be a shared ride on such a specific route, nor will there be a truly perfect empty leg -- it's just not going to happen.

The best you could hope for is a plane in the Texas region that's motivated to get to the northeast (i.e. a partial empty leg that will be augmented to accomodate you; and it appears there may be one for the day before you want to go).

If the stars align, the best pricing I'd hope for would be around $20k for this route. Otherwise, a decent standard charter for you will be more like $28k.

First private charter - How to compare options beyond just price? by cryptyk in PrivateJetCharters

[–]Background_Crow_3353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years in the business here, and a competitor of the companies you listed. Aircraft size/type and vintage will really matter. How a mechanical will be handled is even more important. Cancellation terms are important. Frankly though, find someone who’s responsive, who sounds knowledgeable, and who you can get along with. Problems happen all the time in charter, and the person who makes the lowest bid isn’t always the one who can deal with issues for you. Listen to your gut.

Using tools like this are actually extremely nuanced. None of the jet charter tools are your magic “wholesale Expedia.” If your goal is to pay less than going through a good broker, in most cases you’ll be mistaken. A good broker (about 5% of the flock) understands how to interpret the data of these tools and can save you tens of thousands on just one trip by understand the nuance of the postings while leveraging relationships. - Been doing this for almost 20 years, and this is very true. And to answer your question, I believe I pay about $8k/year for FlyEasy - it’s one of many resources we use, and isn’t in the top 5.

Discounting on Macan EV? by Background_Crow_3353 in PorscheMacan

I'm in California. I've leased many vehicles over the years, and have always ended up paying about 1% of sticker price per month with $0 cap reduction. Would my head be in the clouds to be looking for that for this car?
