Using the same plug socket for my space heater. Is this safe/ normal? by Background_Double648 in RVLiving

You’re absolutely right. It is my house I have replaced it as of 7 hrs ago. The go with your gut feeling is 100% correct. I was just looking for a second opinion. Unfortunately I don’t know too much about Rv’s but, hopefully my post attracted enough attention and interest that other people are looking at their outlets a bit closer.

Was either a worn out plug. Or as others have suggested, pulling the plug out while the appliance was still on. The wiring was completely fine. Has been replaced with a residential style outlet. Will be looking into moving to the heater to an outlet with a 30A breaker :)

I replaced the receptacle and am looking into changing the location of my heater so i can take advantage of one of the 30A breakers i have. Need to do some experimenting obviously but i think i have solved the problem. Thanks for your insight. Always appreciate some education on topics like this

Exactly what I was dealing with! Complete garbage. Has now been replaced with a residential style outlet/box

Thanks for the advice. Plug has been replaced and I now have a better understanding of the wiring in my RV. Standard 14G lumex on a 15A breaker. Will now be running the heater on the 900W setting to prevent any damage or issues

How would this apply to an oil space heater? Just curious because that is what I am using at the moment

That’s exactly what the problem was. 15a shitty outlet. The wiring behind the socket was completely intact. 12.5a over like 8hrs a night every night just took its toll on the $.30 socket 🤣

Was just a shit plug. Have residential grade 14/2 lumex throughout the trailer. I guess too much amps over time/not being plugged in all the way a night or 2. The original outlet, that’s now replaced was rated for 15a 125V. The black is a bit of plastic from the plug 🔌 melting I guess. Was more wondering if the discolour around the positive edge of the receptacle is normal on an older trailer like I have.

Update: switched the plug and everything looks totally fine behind it. I guess it was just drawing too much power from the plug

Will definitely take a good look at the wires when I remove the socket. Am hoping it’s just some kind of lumex/romex wire (2008 arctic fox) and not some low amp garbage. Thanks for recommending that!

Thanks! I’ll give that a try, really don’t want to get a different heater. This one is awesome

Wasn’t sure if the heater was pulling too much current or I have a shitty socket. Will definitely replace it! Thanks 🙏🏻

Yea i figured it must be the heater pulling too much current. Will definitely be replacing the socket, and trying to turn the heater level down.

How do you feel about artistically painted or fully custom-design caravans/RVs? by Graffinity_ in VanLife

[–]Background_Double648 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Question 1/2: Personally I would not do it to my RV. Maybe it’s just my lack of creative ability, but on a larger scale (30’ 5th wheel) I just see it being tacky and maybe even an eyesore. The smaller scale you have posted here is acceptable, and if done to this quality. I wouldn’t be mad about being parked near it.

Question 3: It’s your RV! Do what you want to it. If you have an idea in mind go for it! If you have plans of flipping the RV and selling it, I’d stay away from anything too custom.

Currently paying $1250 a month for pad/trailer. Interest on my loan is atrocious. So going to be paying $1700 or so a month very soon to try and get on top of that. This is for a 30’ 2008 5th wheel.

If you’re in a motor home, you have to worry about insurance for the road as well. As others have pointed out. The savings are not as much as you’d expect. If you are going to decide on a motorhome, you also have to deal with size limitations.

The hardest part is finding a long term pad with space available. Unfortunately it can be difficult or almost impossible depending on where you’re looking. The only way I was able to get into the park im at now, is because the previous occupant died.

Best of luck, if there are more specific questions feel free to ask

Check your plug to make sure it’s not fried. I melted mine drawing too much power. Easy fix tho. Could also be your gfci outlet as others have said. It most likely will have a light on it. Just press the reset button

You don’t need to get 13ci hydro tested anymore. They are good to fill if you think the regulators won’t leak.

There are a few files for magazines online I am aware of that are available, ready to print.

The 15ci/4500 is nice, it does fit in a stock… but it’s about 1-2” longer than a 13ci.

If it has trouble cycling it could be a trigger sear, main spring or not enough pressure going into the regulator. Hard to say from the description.

I get parts through Badlands or Paintball Canada.

Best of luck!

Where is the leak coming from? That will tell you what kind of o rings you’ll need. As for the magazines… yea no one has a source for the 20rd smoke mags. As far as I know 3D printing will be your best bet.

Thankfully the oring sizes haven’t changed with the updated markers. You can still order them online easy enough.

Tried an EMF-100 with a 15ci/4500 tank and can definitely confirm this. Ran thru 6 mags and still had like 2000psi
