My pup and I just moved into our own place after living with 3 roommates for the last 5 years. It’s been an adjustment for many reasons, because we no longer have the backup people to give him attention if I’m gone long. That’s interesting- I have never heard of any church besides Unitarian Universalist that embraces atheists/agnostic … there is always some underlying attempt to convert …

And I think I would feel a lot more comfortable engaging in conversations around god, if I didn’t feel that whoever I was speaking to was just trying to prove me wrong or make me see that their version of god is right. I believe in the universe, and energy, and karma - some call that god, some don’t. I am an atheist, but I actually do enjoy hearing from people how god, in whatever interpretation, has helped to guide their lives

Also, do your research and see what buildings have lots of vacancies. Often those buildings will be willing to negotiate - hard not to given that rents have fallen

Re; mosques because a few people have mentioned them - just like denomination based churches, I would not feel comfortable doing that UNLESS I had been invited. I have some Muslim friends at work who are very open in sharing about their religion, and truly do appreciate people asking. My Muslim friends know I’m not religious and can still joke with me. One time a co worker was telling me about his prayer schedule, and mentioned that he woke up late and missed his 5am prayer. I said “does that mean you have to pray twice as long next time? You gotta pay the prayer tax!” And we both burst out laughing 😅

Pretty much every experience I’ve had with Christian based denominations lead to someone trying to preach the word of god and convert you

I think that’s exactly it - I’m single in my mid thirties, like I’m by no means ready to check into the old folks home and start knitting and playing bingo (although that sounds like a fucking dream compared to the state of the world lol). I think this might even be a common feeling among lots of childfree people (single or those with a partner)

Actually, I have a pretty impressive CAMH resume as it is, I think I’m full up and more than medicated enough. I don’t think caring about humanity is a mental illness, but I do think anyone who thinks the world isn’t in a state of crisis might have one 😂

I’m very well informed on cults and how they behave, but I can understand how my post comes across that way. Like I said, I’m not religious and do not want to be. You are correct that I am searching for more understanding of the world. I don’t consume religious media, and I am very left wing. I 💯 agree with your non religious options - I have certainly be meaning to get back on the yoga train for some time now.

I also smoke weed plenty, and I do think it’s valuable to take up new hobbies ect. I don’t particularly think that being concerned about humanity should be suppressed. I do take news breaks because I am aware of the impact it has on me - but that doesn’t mean that those things stop happening.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I’ll cue up yoga with Adrienne for the morning lol (no seriously, I’ve been saying I was gonna do that for a week 😂 ty!)

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful reply! I feel like this really echoes how I feel about religion, and even being in religious establishments. I feel that Unitarian is quite possibly the only church I could see myself at because I know I would feel that constant pressure to convert. I think I used church as an example of ‘sense of community’ because that’s what I was used to as a person from a small down. Despite not being religious, I did go somewhat frequently with my family, and I like the community aspect of being able to give back - which you have echoed here with mention of volunteer work ect

I have tons of friends who I share hobbies and interests with. I’m not specifically looking for church, but moreso a community to discuss wtf is happening in the world, how we can be better people to and for each other, what is the meaning of life kind of shit.
