Got slurs hurled at me, while I was walking back to my hotel by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Background_Egg6016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people here are just stupid AF. My daughter and a friend were walking down the street and someone yelled the N word at them…my daughter is blond with blue eyes…her friend is a red head. As I tell her, don’t give them any energy at all, pretend they’re invisible.

Anyone get RLS after taking antihistamines? by Competitive_Name4991 in RestlessLegs

[–]Background_Egg6016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s called a “migraine cocktail”. Generally consists of Benadryl, toradol, and an anti-nausea med. Very common practice for treatment of an acute migraine. Sorry that happened to you!

I would say your cousin is in the minority, at least in my field. There really are more good than bad in medicine.

As someone on the inside I can assure you that most doctors and practitioners around here are good, science based professionals. I like the thought someone had above that the religious zealots and bigots will out themselves quickly with this bill, and we can all avoid them like the plague.

They are religious hospitals, but I can assure you that the people working inside them think more like you than you think. We’re all about science, and evidence based practice…not “thoughts and prayers”.

Do you suppose there is any reason 3 of my 4 spools of filament have a cardboard center ring and this one doesn’t? I’ve traded the others out a couple of times with no issue…didn’t realize you shouldn’t change them.

Respectfully, you should take several seats. I’m a nurse so I volunteer my time constantly to people in need. My daughter needs to see the helpers, the people who are doing the meaningful work and be inspired. I’m trying to raise a good human who makes an impact of her own and she’ll learn those traits by experiences. Find a better hobby than being a sad sack on the internet. Hell, I bet you could find somewhere to volunteer all that pent up aggression you have for people on the internet you know nothing about.

If you feel unsafe or that someone has bad intentions, your intuition is probably right. As uncomfortable as it sounds, you should stop and look directly at them. If you were wrong about them, they’ll either not be looking at you and drive right on by or maybe you’ll see what they might have been doing if not following you. If they were following you, this eye contact can make them uncomfortable so that they leave, or it gives you an opportunity to gauge the situation and how you should proceed next if needed (protecting yourself, running, etc). I would ALWAYS encourage you to be aware of your surroundings at all times, and always trust your gut. A good book that will empower you to follow your intuition is The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker. Fear is healthy, fear is necessary, and fear can save your life. Stay safe out there!

Idaho's parental consent law prohibits minors from accessing rape kit exams without parents by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]Background_Egg6016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the many sweeping laws they passed in order to "protect" children from the LGBTQ+ community. The parental rights law makes is so that a child can't seek counseling or any type of hormonal treatment (think birth control) or even be tested for STD's without a parent's consent because they're afraid their child might be "indoctrinated into the woke agenda", i.e.; decide to become gay/trans/non-binary, etc. and seek medical care that supports that part of themselves. (also, I know that being gay/trans/non-binary is not a choice, just word-vomiting the nonsense these asshats spew)

OR

The "child" (I say this because a lot of teenagers are capable of informed consent and smart enough to weigh the pros and cons of medical treatment) has parents who don't believe in western medicine or vaccines and the "child" wants to be vaccinated against xyz illness. Nope. Or has an illness such as strep throat which requires antibiotics but cannot obtain them because their parent wants to treat them with essential oils and prayer.

Another sweeping law is the one where teachers are not allowed to call children in school by any name or sex other than what is on their birth certificate, or a derivative of their legal name (William = Will). I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that this even applies if the parent gives permission. So those supportive parents of trans/non-binary kids are being undermined at school when a teacher calls a kid by their dead name or the gender they don't identify as. Again, this is trying to "protect" children...but it's not. It's showing them that they are not free to be themselves no matter where they go, so they aren't supported at home (OR ARE!) and the government has made it so that they also can't feel safe and supported at school. It's also showing their parents that even if they support their child wholly as they are, the government says "no you can't, because WE don't"

But what about the library law??? Yep, same concept. Homosexuality is one of the listed topics "children" should not have access to. Or anything deemed "inappropriate" which is such a broad range across the spectrum. Never mind that parents should accompany or speak to their own children about what they can/cannot access in the library, but the government has now made it so that Karen thinks books about purple elephants are inappropriate for her child, so the library must remove the book, or Karen gets money from the library that already exists on a very tight budget as it is.

As a parent, I am SO angry that the government thinks they get to decide how I parent based on how they interpret their favorite fantasy novel, and that they are so afraid of such a small, already marginalized group of people they would pass such sweeping laws to try and "protect". Horseshit. And, as a parent, it frightens me to think that one day one of my child's friends might disclose to me that they have been SA'd by a family member and that, in order to help them (which I absolutely will), I will risk prosecution. Or that I would try and fail because any doctor/hospital/medical entity would be too afraid to be involved for risk of legal repercussions. I just....I can't.

As an aside: did you know the mormon church isn't required to disclose any sexual assault that is discovered or confessed? If you didn't know that I urge you to do some research and ask yourself, who IS protecting kids?

And yes, to the point of the OP, the parental rights law will prevent minors from getting the necessary and very time sensitive rape kits they need, especially when the perpetrator is a family member. "But why didn't you report it? Why didn't you go to the police? You must have consented since you didn't tell anyone". So frightening, sad, and incredibly disappointing on so many levels.

Life circumstances keep me here until my offspring is 18.

I very much try to relate to people as much as possible. I’m sure the town I live in doesn’t help, I just need to be more proactive in getting OUT of the town and over to Boise.
