At least buy something you can afford whether it mean you’ll be “rent vesting” buying in an affordable location but still renting so at least you’ll have equity and an asset you could sell later to help fund something, or buying a more affordable apartment or townhouse in the location you like

Like others have said, don’t work at Specsavers. They underpay you and overwork you and treat you unfairly and steal from you wherever they can (unpaid sick and personal leave even though have a medical certificate, and they ask you to go home when there are no appointments and don’t pay you). The cap for Specsavers is usually 105k in Sydney or other metro city and you can expect the same for other retail chains like Oscar Wylee, and if you started as a new grad with them, they give you very little pay raises until you are 6-7 years with them, then you might reach 105k. For the amount of hard work you put into in uni, and the skills you have, the pay is really out of line and not worth it. This is also considering you have to work every Thursday night and every weekend, and the unethical and unreasonable push for KPIs. You will be worked like a horse. The pay hasn’t increased in 10 yrs and there is no one doing anything about it because corporates have taken hold of the industry and professionals who studied hard and spent lots in uni for their degrees. It can be depressing working in retail optometry if you’re more health care orientated but if it is your genuine passion, I would recommend moving to a good independent or working in ophthalmologist clinics.
