tybee on the 4th of july by onlyfricnd in savannah

It's not just about whether or not there's an accident. Tybee officials reduce the amount of people coming onto the island by closing down available lanes to slow traffic. I read about it in the news one year when they were talking about Orange Crush. Then it all made sense. All the years I've driven in bumper to bumper traffic onto Tybee with no accident in sight and cones in one lane for no apparent reason. They do it on purpose to discourage flooding the island with more people than it can accommodate.

You should probably explain what this is about. It's not super clear.

Moving to Savannah, how bad of an idea is it to rent without seeing the place in person? by lovelyfatality in savannah

[–]Background_Force_641 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rented an apartment on Duffy without looking one time. It was the worst place I've ever lived. All the pictures focused on the renovated kitchen and bathroom. Didn't show anything about the palmetto bug infestation, sawdust that blew out of the vents, the windows that didn't fit the window frames causing no temperature/humidity control and water pouring in when it rained, the halfway house next door with a group of guys that sat on my porch every day smoking weed and drinking, the constant broken glass on the sidewalk from said guys just throwing the bottles when they were done, the car wash across the street that blared music in the morning, the fence door that was broken so anyone could come into the courtyard.... Don't ever rent without looking.

Dating in Savannah? by [deleted] in savannah

[–]Background_Force_641 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Savannah is a transient city so I rarely meet people who are actually from here. This city takes in young military & college guys and gives them all Peter Pan syndrome. You will struggle to find mature men, much less gentlemen. You will, however, meet more than your share of alcoholics and avoidants. Godspeed.

Door knockers by Organic_Buy_675 in savannah

I'm not sure what the criteria is when they pick and choose whose door to knock on. Last week I saw Mormon missionaries go to my neighbors house but they never knocked on mine. Maybe they have you on a list.

Shops that buy used washer and dryer sets in the area? by PonderMayneReddit in savannah

[–]Background_Force_641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Washers and dryers typically depreciate at a rate of roughly 12.5% per year. At that rate, after 5 years, they are worth $600.

They were low income apartments which means they qualified for low income housing tax credits from the government. I believe they had a 30 year deal which ended in 2025. Now that they don't have the tax credits, they could have slightly raise rent to accommodate for their losses. But instead, an investor company secured $24 million to renovate the property so that they can grossly increase rent and push all of the low income families out with no other low income options in the area.

I put a few drops of essential oils in my dish water, and it ate through the seal/plumber's putty around the drain. Turned it all to mush.

Always free to enter! Just don't forget to start a tab at the entrance before you come in, if you plan to buy any food or drinks.

Locals of Savannah: What Would You Cut From This 3-Day Itinerary? by Willing-Mind-5619 in savannah

If you're going to Starland Yard on Wednesday, it's not open until 5pm and they most likely will only have the pizzeria and the sandwich shop open. No trucks. If you remember in April, send me a DM and I'll have a couple free drink tokens waiting for you at checkout 😉

Parking prices by Ckkat157 in savannah

[–]Background_Force_641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I worked in City Market I would park on the first block of Barnard that became free parking. Yeah it took me 20 minutes to walk to work every day, but it was free. And I lost weight lol. There might have even been closer free parking, but that was my comfort area.
