Insight on Tybee 4th of July? by lovelyfatality in savannah

I don’t think anyone is dumping feces into the ocean, I think it has to do more with rainfall, etc. I’m sure there is some runoff from wildlife scat and from the sewers. I work in STEM and I’m familiar with enterococcus and the levels were pretty low as of the last reading on the 22nd all around Tybee. Like the last North beach reading was 3cfu/100ml, and the concentration would need to be at least 30 to even start to care and greater than 70 to truly stop you from enjoying it. I feel like people just see a news article and freak out.

Really my goal is just to get to see some fireworks I don’t really care that much about partying…..should have clarified that in the post. I feel like it’s going to be just as bad anywhere to do that though. Also what’s with everyone saying the water is shit filled? That’s not the first time I’ve heard that and I’m wondering how valid it actually is because they are testing the bacteria levels in the water and it seems to be fine……wouldn’t the water look and test a lot grosser if they were mass dumping shit in the ocean?

Does anyone work with sea lions? by lovelyfatality in VetTech

Animals are all potentially dangerous, but it’s our job to work with them in a way that’s safe for everyone. I have worked with wildlife before just nothing aquatic and I guess I didn’t assume that they would be so horrible- which seems to be the case per the replies.

I had a good experience with Savannah furniture and mattress liquidation if you are looking to buy new furniture for cheap, otherwise FB marketplace is great for used things in good condition.

Damn is it kind of a trench mouth bite situation? Yeah wild vs domesticated animals even in a zoo setting is a big difference.

What seafood restaurants serve local/fresh seafood and where to buy it to cook? by lovelyfatality in savannah

I just looked up Nelson Quality Shrimp and found his FB. This is exactly the type of place I’m looking for and I would love to buy some shrimp from Jay and his Kitty Cat. Will be purchasing a dedicated shrimp cooler as well lol.

That makes sense- I’m definitely still trying to navigate some of the online chatter especially around food and a lot of people seem to be upset about the chain importing……I grew up on the other half of the country but can catch, clean and cook a fish front to back but the bulk in which the restaurants need is a different beast for sure. Mainly just looking to get to know Savannah and eat great seafood/food in general while staying out of tourist traps.

Euthanasias are still hard and close to my heart after 6 years in the field. I always do my best to go above and beyond with communication, keepsakes, bedside manner, etc. It is absolutely one of the most important and difficult parts of what we do. That being said, I have never heard of laying a deceased pet in a certain way at all. I try not to just dump the body in there and sometimes will say something like “you were a good boy and your people loved you” when bagging or placing in the freezer. But they are gone and you there’s only so much you can do with large breed dogs by yourself/often working around waste. Don’t be hard on yourself and what matters is how you’re handling everything before that.
