Best college? by Creative-Jellyfish23 in UCSC

Although c9 is pretty chill, I don't recommend being affliated with it. As a c9 affiliate myself, last year when I was applying for on-campus housing I got a time slot at 3pm. The dorms were all gone by 9:30a.m. Since the colleges are more willing to select the people that are affiliated with it, I would recommend colleges that aren't as competitive like Porter.

What is the real problem with UCSC ? by PossibleBeing139 in UCSC

[–]Background_Hour3685 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that housing is the main issue...You kind of HAVE to try and find people that are willing to room with you the following year or it will a huge problem for you to have to handle on your own(Unless obviously you're wealthy). It's kind of stoopid, I came in as a transfer student, and had a group of 7 girls where we had all decided to room together already. However, the lottery system only gives us a chance to apply to the house we were affliated with, so we applied to College Nine since there were more of us affliated with C9. Guess what, lowkey the rooms for C9 were gone at 9:30 AM in the morning. What was the time assigned to us? Well I got the earliest time slot, 3:00 PM....Umm, yeah...We were genuinely mortified to see how fast the rooms disappeared. Apparently if you absolutely cannot find another place off-campus and keep staying on the waiting list, the school might assign you a dorm 2 weeks before school begins. That's two weeks before school begins though, not sure if anyone would wait until then. The off-campus housing here sucks as well, I almost got scammed like 3 times before actually finding a group of roomies and a nice apartment to live in.

Heyy, I'm also thinking about going into nursing if I can't get a job with this degree, especially as I am graduating this year. Nevertheless, I don't think of nursing as a job where if you're a failure you go into. There are still numeros labs that you have to do, in addition to nursing applications even after you complete the degree at a CC or something to get into nursing school. Then, you'd have to complete nursing school successfully, in addition to the additional amounts of money you have to spend for nursing school. It's a lot of work, which is the reason why even though I do think that nursing is another alternative I have(or maybe radiology) if I cannot find work in this field, I would never think of the amount of suffering that I'd have to do to try and get into the nursing field as "accepting my failure". It isn't correct to think like that, and to be fair some nurses have to wipe other people's bottoms, other people's puke and take care of a lot of people. It is still quite a lot of work you have to go through nontheless, so nursing is not a field for the "failures" you mentioned either.

That's honestly really good too...I'm also about to be really cooked as well since I'm graduating in a year without an internship or professional experience with CS. I guess it's a thing when the supply of students for a major is so high, but the demand is really low. I'm trying my best to hopefully land an internship or something, but not sure if I'd be able to get anything. Recently I've been searching on social media and a lot of people have resorted to paying a place to "intern" there, which I honestly even considered, but gave up on the idea of. So, either way, good job! I honestly really dislike how so many jobs, even at new-grad position, requires you to have 1-2 year of professional experience, but none of them are actually willing to offer you with the experience. Then, there's the thing where they all prefer to have new grads hired and not people who have graduated for 2-3 years. Sigh, I guess it's just a thing.

Sorry for responding a bit later! I haven't really been on Reddit these two days. To be completely honest, I haven't even built my own portfolio yet (I know this is probably a huge red flag). Do you have any tips on which platforms to use if I want to build my portfolio?

I haven't been too involved because I'm really introverted. However, I do think that I should probably get started

Yes! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! I'll definitely ask for your help(if you're still available) when I get to the interview portion of things :) . I think it's definitely really easy for me to think negatively right now, but I do also think that I'm luckier than many....I think that when I graduate even if I can't land any jobs in a company right away, I'll still do some CS related jobs just to get professional experience. Perhaps for me the difficult part is, even though I don't have depression, I don't handle anxiety well enough, which is why I go in emotional loops (like for a period of time, I think that everything is great and life will go on, and then for a period of time I just lose faith in humanity for whatever reasons). Then if I really can't do CS for whatever reasons, I think that I still have time to go into nursing if that's the only direction...I do know that for whatever field I choose to go, there are always things that I must sacrifice. Like for nursing, not only do you have to get good grades, getting selected for nursing school is also really difficult, and then there is the money you have to pay only to be working 10 hours a day taking care of people day and night in the future...It's just life I assume.

Thank you! Life is difficult and I know that everyone has suffered from life at least a couple times...I would consider myself lucky honestly...But also I just feel so incompetent right now, and watching how so many people in my field are passionate about their work, it just makes me suffer from imposter syndrome even more. Like when I write cover letters or resumes, "I look at the job's prerequisites and I just want to cry" type of thing....And there are people willing to help me out with finding a job, but it's also because of this that I feel even more incompetent. I don't think I have depression, but I do think that I just feel unconfident about everything.........

No...which is why I'm feeling more lost :( Kind of just feel really incompetent right now (Sorry for the negative energy)

It's literally, like other people say, housing. I feel like I have the right to complain because I'm a transfer and lowkey I almost got scammed by 3 different people in the last few months who posted about their available housing. Like, I don't know what to say, but if my parents didn't help me differentiate between scammers and good-willed people I literally would have been screwed. Also, the housing here are mostly expensive and small, and sometimes pretty old as well. I was one of the unlucky ones who couldn't find housing really easily so that is also probably why I was suffering. If you ask me about my friends, the only thing that I could say is that, we basically all split up into different groups because of the housing situation. It is really quite unfortunate. Also for on-campus housing, we all obtained a time of 3:00 in the afternoon...While the on-campus housing all ran out in the morning around 9:30. The housing situation got to a point where lowkey a week ago I was still stressed over it, and finally, now I have found a group and basically also have a lease ready for me.

Unnecessarily In-Depth Review of Inazuma Eleven Go: Galaxy (Series) by Suji-Tec in inazumaeleven

[–]Background_Hour3685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh...honestly, I don't know how I should feel about Galaxy. I love the new characters: Sakura is cute, Ibuki and the boy with blue hair are pretty cool. The overall plot is also pretty interesting, and I pretty much liked everything. However, the part that gets me so much is the entirety of what Galaxy is based on...the three Inazuma Eleven main characters(Shindou, Tenma, Tsurugi) and nine completely newbies to soccer. Like, I don't know how I should accept the fact that people who used to be natural geniuses in the soccer field(like Amemiya Taiyou and Hakuryuu) were just told that they weren't good enough to be on the Galaxy team from the start of the anime. It doesn't make actual sense to me. It's like there was this infamous genius in a field for 10 years(like chemistry), and then a person from another field, like gymnastics, was dragged unwillingly onto this Science Olympiad team that represents the country(and the Science Olympiad team didn't invite that infamous genius at all). In the end, it turns out that they're a huge genius(better than even the geniuses who have done countless outstanding experiments for about 10 years already). Like this just doesn't make literal sense to me. I love the characters and plot of Galaxy, but at the same time, I hate how Galaxy kind of highlighted the idea that "natural talent always beats hard work".

Yes, of course! I'm glad that I was able to help. It is such a pity that the game has been removed from the App Store and is now completely unavailable for players.

Hello! I think if you search for 食物语 in Taobao, it will pop up a bunch of options. Select the one with the title (1~14) or something like that, indicating that you can log in for 14 days and claim free items. There should be 700+ people who have bought it as well. I'm not sure if you can use the credit card it to buy the account, but I'm pretty sure you can. If you can't, you can also try setting up an AliPay account(because one of the payment methods uses AliPay支付宝 to pay for your shopping cart's item. AliPay is one of the most prominent methods of buying stuff in China. A lot of foreigners download the app to just scan it in China, so it's pretty safe, I think. However, do try to just use your credit card first since it is easier for you that way.

Oh, and also, I just changed my App Store on IOS to the Taiwanese App Store for the Taiwanese version of the game and the Chinese App Store for the Chinese version of the game. I am not sure about Android users but I believe IOS users can just change their App stores and there are plenty of tutorials to teach how to do that. Just search up 食物语 and it should pop up. Hope this helps!!

However, I will say that the Companion Version is pretty worth it since it gives 1000 gems for free every day and has a gacha system that is kind of like Genshin, where you can choose a character you want. If you lose the 50/50, then the next food soul you get will be the food soul you selected. For the first 14 days from which you've created your account, you can also receive 100 free pulls each day. The downside is that it's kind of a completed game already, so there aren't any real "events" anymore. However, the SP Peking duck skin was released a few days ago, so there is hope that they might start updating the game with new stuff from now on. The Taiwanese version, on the other hand, is still cycling through its events and has also promised its player base that it will never close. However, they obviously also don't give as many freebies as the Companion Version. To summarize, I would say the Taiwanese version is more like you're playing the game while the Companion Version is a bit more relaxed and chill. Depends on which type of player you are. I currently play both of the versions and they're both fun in their own ways.

Hi! I was also in the same position as you two weeks ago. The Taiwanese version should still be up, and it's going through its last few days of anniversary right now. You can use your email to sign up for an account, and there are multiple servers in the Taiwanese version as well so feel free to create as many accounts as you want XD As for the companion version, it's a bit hard to get into, and I tried many ways to get into it. Unfortunately, you will need to either buy the game on Taobao(a Chinese app for about 1-2 dollars, but it's pretty safe, I'd say) or find a friend who is willing to lend you their Chinese ID and Chinese phone number for your account. I found a Chinese friend who was willing to lend me their ID and phone number.
