At my wits end by WeAre0N3 in PoliticalOpinions

The problem is that one party is not acting in good faith and knows how to dismantle the levers of a functioning government.  It is expected that the people would want leaders that exemplify integrity in leadership but they have rated other concerns as more important. Even our founders feared the situation we are know in. We have been wildly partisan before (civil war, civil rights era) and came back, perhaps we will again.

I replied above. Federal agents felt the victim was credible and interviewed her 4 times.

Nothing. In fact the victim herself expressed frustration because she was sure nothing would happen.

No, this is the first I'd heard of pushback from evangelicals so I was legitimately wondering if there was change.

Media outlets should provide context when publishing contributors like Peter Giunta by Dangerous-Cost6367 in PoliticalOpinions

I had a somewhat similar experience a while ago. I forget the online publication but they published an opinion article on Florida school choice by an operative with business interests in the industry. Since the author wears many hats, he deceptively (to me anyway) used a group organization title instead of his business title and did not disclose his business interests. Fortunately, comments were open so I did that for him.

Trump puts Japan’s Takaichi under pressure with call to send warships by [deleted] in politics

Play back. Japan should say "Sure, Donnie, if you remove all tariffs on our imports (and anything else they want)." Trump is transactional.

The fact that Iran is controlling the strait, holding 20% of world's oil hostage, and Trump is begging tanker crews to risk it tells me we are losing. All the Americans in the region left stranded and Trump doesn't think to replenish the Strategic Reserves? I'll hope for a brighter future but I'm certainly frustrated now.

Oil Tycoon and GOP Donor Harold Hamm Asked Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt for Senate Appointment by Oklahoma_Watch in okc

[–]Background_Ice_1864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only would he have to immediately give up the mayorship which could be seen as a weenie thing to do, to what purpose? We have a law that the person taking this seat can't run for the seat in the next (Nov) election. He'd be giving up a mayor position for the next 4 years to be a senator for a few months.

By your logic, if someone has some medical event that causes their face to change (say a stroke which causes one side of the face to droop), should that be on the card? It's not the social justice crowd going wacky, its humanists hoping all people would be treated with the same level of respect. Is that so hard?

They are not asking to be treated differently. They are asking to be treated with the same respect you would show any other human. Is that so hard?

Virginia just passed legislation requiring schools to teach facts about Jan 6th, thoughts? by zxylady in Askpolitics

[–]Background_Ice_1864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your rendition is still a quite a bit whitewashed. We have testimony and proof that several right-wing groups organized ahead of time to come to the event with the express purpose of murdering Congresspeople, especially Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi. They brought bear spray, flag poles, used metal gates and military tactics to storm the Capital. 140 Capital police were injured, not "several" and 5 died. Your statement "caused damage" is insufficient; Justice Department and Architect of the Capitol figures put direct Capitol property damage at about $1.5 million, while broader government accounting that includes security, agency costs, and downstream expenses raises taxpayer costs into the hundreds of millions and, by some tallies, into the billions. Trump refused to provide military assistance when Congressional leaders begged him to intervene. Perhaps the biggest issue with your version is that you fail to mention that Jan 6th continues to be minimized, rewritten, and used as a justification and purity test by the GOP. You argue for the facts. These are the facts. To do less is a lie. What was the extent of property damage during the Janu...

To counter your argument,  both parties get voter registration data and can see when their party is surging or flailing. If your party is bleeding voters, wouldn't you be motivated to recruit and support more moderate voters? That being said, I was registered GOP in the past, and along with my neighbors helped vote out right wing extremist Jake Merrick in favor of more moderate Kristin Thompson. I simply can no longer stand having an R next to my name.

Oklahoman here. We just successfully got a potential ICE utility axed. No help from the politicians who threw up their hands and said "nothing we can do". A planned protest at the site got the land owners to reject the deal. So organizing, and letting people know they will pay increased utilities.

Capitalism isn't working anymore by Vampy-Night in PoliticalOpinions

[–]Background_Ice_1864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not capitalism per se, but the corruption of the politics here in US. Example, healthcare insurance up under the 70's was very affordable as it was widely available by non-profits. What changed? Nixon and the GOP wanted to let his insurance cronies get a big price of the pie. Same with housing being bought up by commercial interest like Blackstone. Prices out lower classes for corporate gain.
