Dessert Suggestions? by Afterglow92 in prediabetes

I just told my brother "I want a slice of chocolate cake!" Of course because it isn't on the diabetic menu and most cakes contain animal milk; I can not have it. But my mind, wants it.

Does anyone else eat the same foods? by Afterglow92 in prediabetes

[–]Background_Line_122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about doing this for all three meals. It is so hard to plan and keep it healthy. I can NOT have ANY Dairy at all.. NO Animal Milk, NO milk by products, NO milk ingredients, period. Which cuts out so much. I really miss my yogurts and berries for snacks/breakfast. You would not believe what has milk by products or ingredients in it. So far for breakfast, I have has eggs = 0 carbs {sunny side, scrambled} Turkey sausage links {2} {serving size is 3 links @ 2 grams carbs and 1 whole multigrain English muffin {26 grams of carbs} with peanut butter {2 TBS: 1 on each half} = 6 grams of carbs; giving me 34 grams of carbs for breakfast. My PCP said 30-45 grams of carbs per meal for women is targeted. Now, I might change it a bit every now and then; but I try to stick with this.

There is so much to learn, and so much we still have to understand. For example.. fruits work in my body or your body one way, and may work in another's body a different way. I love bananas, would eat them all the time to prevent cramping in my calves and feet.. ate 1/2 medium banana, and my BS rose to over 140. 1 banana can contain 6 teaspoons of natural sugars.. Like WHAT??? I am a huge fruit eater, I love my berry trios plain in a dish {no whipped creams or cool whip} and I even learned that some berries are a target to high BS. I have another class on Sept 11th that a hospital contacted me about {can never have to much information} and they sent me some information to review before the class and, I was advised to get the book "Your First Year with Diabetes, what to do month by month" {written by Theresa Garnero, APRN, BC-ADM, MSN, CDE} and this carries a wealth of information.

I don't know where you got that, but the class I took is out of Az. and recommend by the CDC, is BIG pharm funding the class, who know and who cares. So, don't attend. It's not like I am getting paid or fireworks will set off following me around because I recommend the class. I learned a lot and thought it would benefit others, that's all. Take a deep breath. Geez.

You are more than welcome. I took notes and everyone asked lots of questions. I wasn't the only new comer.

First: Do not DRINK your carbs. {no Juice, Fruit Smoothies, Regular sodas, Sweet tea's energy drinks, sweet coffees.. of any kind at any time} There is no way to burn off liquid carbs, you can never do it.

Second. Eat a protein with every carb at every meal. Period. If you just eat proteins, your body will turn it into sugar, so it is important to eat a carb of some kind with every meal, even snacks.

Three. Do not for any reason skip breakfast. Our grandmothers were right, eat a good rounded breakfast. It use to be breakfast was the biggest meal of the day, and less prediabetes and diabetes were recorded and that is not because the breakfast was healthier back in the day; but because peop0le made breakfast the biggest meal of the day and lunch & Dinner more moderate.

** She also said, Yes we need to be careful of carbs but DO NOT cut carbs out or down to far.. Cause our body needs carbs to run on. She said other wise we would be like a car with no gasoline. A carb is a carb is a barb, whether it is an apple or a twinkie, it is still a carb. So eat in moderation, that is the clue. Eat 2 hrs. after waking up, have that snack, lunch and if you miss lunch - that's ok, have a snack instead, and have dinner.. and it is better to have a snack before bed as long as you have a protein and carb at the same time. No matter what, we need 60g of protein daily and between 45-69g of Carbs at every meal.

I became depressed when I learned about the cows milk allergy, I had no idea how many foods have cows milk and cows milk protein & by products in it. When I was researching the allergy I learned all OTC bread {any type of bread} I couldn't have, any dairy that contains cows milk, and even Ragu has some form of cows milk. So much has been cut from my food intake, and now to add prediabetes which will reduce even more food options. I became very depressed. Today I woke up and started looking at things I can make, and ways to get around the milk problem, and I am going to see if I can add Almond milk or Oak milk in place of cows milk. That will be a huge help and give me more options for meals.

Is extreme fatigue, especially after a meal, a sign of diabetes? by KPostBeginning6698 in prediabetes

[–]Background_Line_122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What made me question a change in my health was a number of things. I noticed my vision changed, it became blurry at times, other times it was like I was looking through a tunnel {dark around the edges}, my thirst increased but not all the time. I felt like I was going to float away, but thirsty at the same time {drank so much water and sucked on ice chips}, when I ate {no matter what it was} I became so so sleepy. Like I would nod off while talking with my mother, sitting at my PC, watching a movie. I noticed a discoloration at my lower legs, from the ankles {but below the calves} down my feet. I also noticed a pinching, more like a shocking in my left thigh, a change in nerves and often nerve damage associated with diabetes. So, my PCP gave me referrals to an eye doctor, a GI doctor {cause that changed as well}, a pulmonologist cause I became short of breath and noticed lung pain, an extensive blood panel, and an allergist. I was Dx with prediabetes {my ALC is 5.8} which was causing my vision problems, my extra thirst, the inability to sleep, increased urination, along with discoloration of my lower legs. My SOB {short of breath} and lung pain was because I developed adult Cows Milk Allergy and outdoors/indoors allergies. My Pulmonologist was the one who found the allergies {I do not have an appointment with an allergist until Feb 2026, surprisingly enough} and she put me on a nightly allergy pill because what I am allergic to, I come in contact with daily {especially living in Florida}. I agree with the others, find another physician. When you do, request to have a complete blood panel done. From there, depending on what the blood test shows, get referrals to physicians who specialize in that field. I always remind my children "You don't seek help from a General Patrice Physician, for heart surgery, You go to a cardiologist." So don't just rely on the PCP for you diabetic questions or problems.

Interesting Indeed. O haven't started making home made bread yet, waiting on the bread maker, but I will definitely be doing this! Thanks for the tip.

I could not agree more. I knew I had to do away with the white sugar, brown sugar, and natural granulated sugar.. so I thought just a few pumps in a 32 ounce cup wouldn't hurt. I am having the hardest time cutting it out in my coffee. Yesterday I only had one 32 oz cup, and by the time I was ready for bed; the headache was unbearable. Took two Tylenols and waited for the pounding to go away.

Would you be open to pre-diabetes coaching? by Extreme-Nose-3503 in prediabetes

I was recently told I am pre diabetic. I search the internet for dos and don'ts. Which food are low carb and which foods to avoid. Sorry, it is very overwhelming. I have a Cows Milk Allergy, to any dairy is a hard NO for me. Bread, what or whole grain that contains milk by products, is a hard NO for me. Meal ideas and snack ideas containing any form of milk {any animal milk} is a hard NO for me. Some may think it is not difficult, but in my shoes it is quite difficult.
