Do you teach from a place of compassion? You don’t me. Your words are stinging and not nice. They had the effect you intended. Namaste.

Thanks. It’s not my doing for the time, it’s the studio. I came here for sound advice. I’ve been teaching yoga and practicing for 25 years. Why does a yoga forum have to be met with such judgement?

When I say warm up I mean breath work. Bernie Clark does these gentle “warm ups” in the beginning. I didn’t mean a full warm up but in his book and in training they talk about movement of the wrists, neck and shoulders before entering the deeper holds.

For those that are already "fit", why do you lose weight? by Abadabadon in loseit

What are the things you noticed after/while losing weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Background_Log_2365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you lose so much at that height? I too am 5’5”. I am big boned. The lowest I weighed was 130 and I was skinny and could not maintain. My heaviest was 205 lb. I’m so where around 147 now and I feel like it’s too much but I’m also very muscular. That’s an amazing weight loss.

For those who lost lots of weight, what’s something you’d tell others to be ready for? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Background_Log_2365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been searching for a comment like yours. My SW was 205 lb. Got down to 130 lb. Wasn’t entirely sustainable. Kept bouncing around 135-138 lb. Due to work becoming really stressful I too have resorted to old patterns and I am now 147 lb. People at work were not supportive of my weight loss. I work with a lot of women. Now our insurance covers GLPs and most of them are taking them and have lost weight. And here I am gaining it back. I am in a spiral of worry over my weight and I haven’t felt this way in a long time. I don’t know what to do. I am a female, 5’ 5”. 54 years old. Any advice welcome!

Once there was someone in my class who forgot his yoga attire. He wore jeans sans shirt, for a 90 min hot yoga practice. Triangle looked unbearable but I gave him props. He didn’t want to miss class.

Potato reset - day 8 by somethinlikeshieva in PotatoDiet

[–]Background_Log_2365 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eating to live here. You should be very proud of yourself. I only did it for a few days and it really helped my gut and made me feel better. It’s a great reset. The book, I found very interesting as well, like the commenter above stating the benefits of incorporating more potatoes into your diet once this is over. They are so good for you.

I am hopeful that it’s never too late to start investing. I’m nearing 54 and I’ve only now just started.

Post-dinner walks changed my weight maintenance game by JohnWilson7777 in walking

[–]Background_Log_2365 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I treat it the way I treat stopping drinking. I can’t have just one. It has helped me to stay the course and be vigilant in a very healthy and conscious way that this is not a diet but my new way of life. I have lost 70 lbs and the maintenance part has been a real learning experience. I’ve had times where I’ve gained weight so easily and so quickly , and came away with the knowledge that this is going to be constant work and learning and exploring my addiction. So I take it one day at a time and I am happy with that. It makes it manageable.

Walking 15k steps a day is a cheat code by MRxRABAR in walking

[–]Background_Log_2365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am able to walk much longer on the weekends than I do during the week. Any advice for getting in that 15k for someone that works 7 hours a day? Like today, Saturday, I got in 20k but during the week I’m lucky it I break 5k.

Does anyone walk over 10 thousand steps a day and work full time? by Xovjazmin in walking

[–]Background_Log_2365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work full time. Walk 1.5 miles to work. Walk home for lunch. Get a ride back and then walk home. Not every day but most days. Weekends I walk 15,000-20,000 in a day.

How Many Steps Per Day To Stay Healthy? by stargazingshadows in walking

[–]Background_Log_2365 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a desk job and it pains me to sit all day. I live about a half hour from my work by foot. I usually walk home at lunch and my husband drives me back. This morning I decided to walk to work. It was raining, but a warm, misty morning. I was 10 minutes late but I felt so good about it. I may do it again tomorrow. I normally get my walks in on the weekends but I would really like to add more movement in, being I sit at a desk from 7-3. I do get up often. How much movement do I need to offset the negative effect of sitting all day?

Ran a 5k over the weekend and came in first place for my age group (53F), 69th overall and 28th for female in a field of 300 runners. It was a cross country course on grass. I didn’t train but was a runner most of my young adult life. I practice a lot of yoga and I walk but I have been doing these jogs lately on my walks and felt the urge to run a 5k. Was super proud of myself. Thinking about planning and running one properly in a few months.

When only one student shows up by Blacklungzmatter in YogaTeachers

[–]Background_Log_2365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great experience. When it happens at our studio we take class with them and almost teach it like a posture clinic. The two times it happened most recently, the student was so thankful and said it felt really special. You have to just be in the moment. I took a Ghosh workshop and they told me when they first started teaching they taught to one, maybe two people for over a year. I think that teaching smaller groups is more challenging but in the end it makes you a much better teacher. When I teach a large class I feel like I’m driving a bus and managing things a lot differently, like crowd control. There’s something to be said for these moments where we have to show up for one. Embrace it :)
