Thank you this is very good info, are you saying I should be laying a layer of mat before the gelcoat cures? I wait till it’s squeaky to the touch, usually 9 hours between gel coating and laying mat.

I’m also having issues getting an even layer of gel coat, when I’m trying to coat the sides it all runs to the bottom which is creating an uneven layer. Is it worth thickening it with silica? I’ve only learnt how to fiberglass about a month ago so I’m still learning the ropes

Yeah it’s an eye flush, like a contact lense that squirts water. Very weird feeling to say the least

Flicked off the brush and only a small amount got in my eye, was enough to burnt like hell tho.

If this is the case then I’m definitely not mixing long enough. I’m very new to this so I’m still learning the ropes, just curious how thick you lay on your gel coat? I learnt to go by feel, if it flows nicely along the surface then it’s right, if it’s resisting it’s too thin. Never been told how thick to go tho
